(gods in blue)

Narrator:

A lament was raised in the city:

My lady weeps bitterly for her young husband

Inanna weeps bitterly for her young husband

Woe for her husband! Woe for her young love!

2b - Dumuzi the shepherd  (Dumuzi the Shepherd, Enki‘s & Ninsun‘s son; Dumuzi & Inanna)

Dumuzi was taken captive in Uruk

He will no longer bathe in Eridu

He will no longer soap himself at the holy shrine

He will no longer treat the mother of Inanna as his mother

He will no longer compete with the young men of the city

He will no longer raise his sword higher than the high priests

Great is the grief of those who mourn for Dumuzi.”

Inanna:

(young lovers Dumuzi & naked Inanna)

Gone is my husband, my sweet husband!

Gone is my love, my sweet love.

My beloved has been taken from the city.

My beloved bridegroom has been taken from me

5a - Dumuzi is dead (Dumuzi found dead, his body water-logged)

Before I could wrap him with a proper shroud.”

Narrator:

But Inanna does not grieve alone.

Geshtinanna, Dumuzi‘s sister,

Wandered about the city, weeping for Dumuzi.

Geshtinanna:

(Geshtinanna, scribe, singer of songs, Dumuzi’s sister)

I grieve for my brother, lady, I grieve for the king

Where is the Shepherd Dumuzi, my favorite kin?”

Narrator:

When she saw the sister’s grief,

When Inanna saw the grief of Geshtinanna

She spoke to her gently:

Inanna:

Your brother’s house is no more

Dumuzi has been carried away by the galla.

I would take you to him

But I do not know the place.”

Narrator:

1a-inanna-dumuzi  (young lovers, Inanna & her spouse Dumuzi The Shepherd)

Then a fly appeared, the holy fly circled the air above Inanna‘s head

It told the goddess where Dumuzi had been taken, where Dumuzi was

6 - Inanna, Dumuzi, & the Underworld  (Inanna & Geshtinanna at the steppe / gate to the Under World)

Inanna and Geshtinanna went to the edges of the steppe.

They found Dumuzi weeping.

Inanna then took Dumuzi by the hand and said:

Inanna:

You will go to the Underworld half the year

Your sister, since she has asked, will go the other half

On the day you are called, that day you’ll be taken.

On the day Geshtinanna is called, that day you’ll be set free.’

(Inanna places Dumuzi and Geshtinanna in the hands of Ereshkigal, bows and lends graces to her Holy Sister):

Inanna:

Holy Ereshkigal (Inanna‘s sister, Nergal‘s spouse)! Great is your renown!

Holy Ereshkigal! I sing you praises!”

2 - Ereshkigal (Ereshkigal, Queen of the Lower World / Under World / Nether World, & spouse Nergal)

Ereshkigal:

I accept this Mortal man and woman as Initiates of Inanna and Ereshkigal.”

(Ereshkigal and Inanna hug each other)

The Descent of Ishtar into the Underworld

(gods in blue)

To Kurnugi, land of [no return],

1a - Inanna with Liberty Torch (Inanna / Ishtar, daughter to Nannar / Sin & Ningal, the patron gods of Ur)

Ishtar (Inanna) daughter of Sin was [determined] to go;

The daughter of Sin (Nannar) was determined to go

To the dark house, dwelling of Erkalla’s god (home of Nergal & Ereshkigal in the Nether World),

To the house which those who enter cannot leave,

On the road where traveling is one-way only,

To the house where those who enter are deprived of light,

Where dust is their food, clay their bread.

They see no light, they dwell in darkness,

They are clothed like birds, with feathers.

Over the door and the bolt, dust has settled.

4 - door to Ereshkigal's Underworld (gateway to the Nether World)

Ishtar, when she arrived at the gate of Kurnugi,

Addressed her words to the keeper of the gate,

“Here gatekeeper, open your gate for me,

Open your gate for me to come in!

If you do not open the gate for me to come in!

If you do not open the gate for me to come in, I shall smash the door and shatter the bolt,

I shall smash the doorpost and overturn the doors, I shall raise up the dead and they shall eat the living:

The dead shall outnumber the living!”

The gatekeeper made his voice heard and spoke,

He said to great Inanna,

“Stop, lady, do not break it down!

Let me go and report your words to queen Ereshkigal.”

The gatekeeper went in and spoke to [Ereshkigal],

4d-ninlil-followed-enlil-to-ereshkigals-underworld  (Ereshkigal, Queen of the Nether World)

“Here she is, your sister Inanna [. . .]

Who holds the great keppu’toy (alien technologies),

Stirs up the Abzu in Ea‘s (Enki‘s) presence [. . .]?”

When Ereshkigal heard this,

3a - Ereshkigal, Inanna, Nannar, & Utu (Ereshkigal, Inanna, Nannar, & Utu, Nannar‘s children)

Her face grew livid as cut tamarisk,

Her lips grew dark as the rim of a kuninu-vessel.

“What brings her to me?

What has incited her against me?

Surely not because I drink water with the Anunnaki, I eat clay for bread, I drink muddy water for beer?

I have to weep for young men forced to abandon their sweethearts.

I have to weep for girls wrenched from their lover’s laps.

For the infant child I have to weep, expelled before its time.

Go, gatekeeper, open your gate to her.

Treat her according to the ancient rites.”

The gatekeeper went.

He opened the gate to her.

“Enter, my lady: may Kutha give you joy,

May the palace of Kurnugi be glad to see you”

He let her in through the first door, but stripped off (and) took away the great crown on her head,
2aa - Hittite, Inanna In Her Skychamber (gatekeeper Namtar / Neti, winged naked Inanna, & Ereshkigal)

“Gatekeeper, why have you taken away the great crown on my head?”

“Go in, my lady.

Such are the rites of the Mistress of Earth.”

He let her in through the second door, but stripped off (and) took away the rings in her ears.

“Gatekeeper, why have you taken away the rings in my ears?”

“Go in, my lady.

Such are the rites of the Mistress of Earth.”

2-inanna  (Inanna with alien technologies, & beads around her neck)

He let her in through the third door, but stripped off (and) took away the beads around her neck.

“Gatekeeper, why have you taken away the beads around my neck?”

“Go in, my lady.

Such are the rites of the Mistress of Earth.”

1-inanna-goddess-of-love  (Inanna with alien technologies, Goddess of Love, younger sister to Ereshkigal)

He let her in through the fourth door, but stripped off (and) took away the toggle pins at her breast.

“Gatekeeper, why have you taken away the toggle pins at my breast?”

“Go in, my lady.

Such are the rites of the Mistress of Earth.”

He let her in through the fifth door,

but stripped off (and) took away the girdle of birth-stones around her waist.

“Gatekeeper, why have you taken the girdle of birth stones around my waist?”

“Go in, my lady.

Such are the rites of the Mistress of Earth.”

He let her in through the sixth door,

but stripped off (and) took away the bangles on her wrists and ankles.

“Gatekeeper, why have you taken away the bangles from my wrists and ankles?”

“Go in my lady.

Such are the rites of the Mistress of Earth.”

He let her in through the seventh door, but stripped off (and) took away the proud garment of her body.

4b - nude flying goddess Inanna (Inanna wearing royal family crown, stripped of all alien weaponry, naked alien Goddess of Love)

“Gatekeeper, why have you taken away the proud garment of my body?”

“Go in, my lady.

Such are the rites of the Mistress of Earth.”

As soon as Inanna went down to Kurnugi (Netherworld, Under World, Hades),

Ereshkigal looked at her and trembled before her.

Inanna did not deliberate (?), but lent over her.

Ereshkigal made her voice heard and spoke,

2a - Ereshkigal, Nannar's Daughter (Ereshkigal on her throne in Erkalla, Nether World)

Addressed her words to Namtar her vizier,

“Go Namtar [ ] of my [ ]

Send out against her sixty diseases [ ] Inanna:

Disease of the eyes to her [eyes]

Disease of the arms to her [arms]

Disease of the feet to her [feet]

Disease of the heart to her [heart]

Disease of the head [to her head]

To every part of her and to [ ].”

After Inanna the Mistress of (?) [had gone to Kernugi]

No bull mounted a cow, [no donkey impregnated a jenny]

No young man impregnated a girl [in the street (?)]

The young man slept in his private room,

The girl slept in the company of her friends.

4m-utu-inanna-nannar  (Nannar‘s children, Utu, Inanna, father Nannar, & Papsukkal damaged)

Then Papsukkal, vizier of the great gods, hung his head, his face [became gloomy];

He wore mourning clothes, his hair unkempt.

2a-nannar-statue-2000-b-c 3ea-inanna-presents-king-shulgi-to-nannar  (Nannar; Ninsun, semi-divine king Gudea, Inanna, & Nannar / Sin)

Dejected(?), he went and wept before Sin his father,

His tears flowed freely before king Ea (Enki).

Inanna has gone down to The Earth and has not come up again.

6b-inanna-dumuzi-in-the-underworld  (widowed Inanna at the door to the Nether World, & deceased spouse Dumuzi)

As soon as Inanna went down to Kurnugi

No bull mounted a cow, no donkey impregnated a jenny,

No young man impregnated a girl on the street

The young man slept in his private room,

The girl slept in the company of her friends.

2b-enki-his-hybred-experiments  (Enki seated, master of Earth’s creatures, & DNA experiments)

Ea (Enki), in the wisdom of his heart, created a person.

He created Good-looks the playboy.

“Come, Good-looks, set your face towards the gate of Kurnugi.

The seven gates of Kurnugi shall be opened before you.

               (Inanna, Ereshkigal, & father Nannar)

Ereshkigal shall look at you and be glad to see you.

When she is relaxed, her mood will lighten.

Get her to swear the oath by the great gods.

Raise your head, pay attention to the waterskin,

Saying, ‘Hey my lady, let them give me the waterskin, that I may drink water from it.'”

(and so it happened. But)

When Ereshkigal heard this,

She struck her thigh and bit her finger.

“You have made a request of me that should not have been made!

Come, Good-looks, I shall curse you with a great curse.

I shall decree for you a fate that shall never be forgotten.

Bread (gleaned (?)) from the city’s plows shall be your food,

The city drains shall be your only drinking place,

Threshold steps your only sitting place,

The drunkard and the thirsty shall slap your cheek.”

2 - Ereshkigal (Ereshkigal, volunteered to make the Nether World her kingdom)

Ereshkigal made her voice heard and spoke:

She addressed her words to Namtar her vizier,

             (Ereshkigal, naked Inanna, & Namtar)

“Go Namtar, knock (?) at Egalina,

Decorate the threshold steps with coral,

Bring the Annunaki out and seat (them) on golden thrones,

Sprinkle Inanna with the waters of life and conduct her into my presence.”

Namtar went, knocked at Egalina,

Decorated the threshold steps with coral,

1h-procession-lg  (King Anu‘s royal family descendants stationed on Earth Colony)

Brought out the Annunaki, seated them on golden thrones,

Sprinkled Inanna with the waters of life and brought her out to her (sister).

He let her out through the the first door, and gave her back to her the proud garment of her body.

He let her out through the second door, and gave back to her the bangles of her wrists and ankles.

He let her out through the third door, and gave back to her the girdle of birthstones around her waist.

He let her out through the fourth door, and gave back to her the toggle-pins at her breast.

He let her out through the fifth door, and gave back to her the beads around her neck.

He let her out through the sixth door, and gave back to her the rings for her ears.

He let her out through the seventh door, and gave back the great crown for her head.

“Swear that (?) she has paid you for her ransom and give her back (in exchange) for him,

             (young lovers Dumuzi & Inanna)

For Dumuzi, the lover of her youth,

Wash (him) with pure water, anoint him with sweet oil,

Clothe him in a red robe, let the lapis lazuli pipe play(?)

Let party-girls raise a loud lament(?)

2 - Geshtinanna, daughter to Enki & Ninsun (Geshtinanna, scribe, singer of songs, Dumuzi‘s sister, Enki‘s & Ninsun‘s daughter)

Then Belili (Geshtinanna) tore off (?) her jewelery,

Her lap was filled with eyestones.

5a-dumuzi-is-dead  (the death of Dumuzi, son to Enki & Ninsun, the gods were mortal!)

Belili heard the lament for her brother, she struck the jewelery [from her body],

The eyestones with which the front of the wild cow was filled.

“You shall not rob me (forever) of my only brother!

2b-dumuzi-the-shepherd (Dumuzi the Shepherd)

On the day when Dumuzi comes back up,

(and) the lapis pipe and the carnelian ring come up with him,

(When) male and female mourners come up with him,

5a-inanna-in-underworld-dumuzi-looks-on  (deceased Dumuzi behind the gateway to the Nether World)

The dead shall come up and smell the smoke offering.”

“Come my faithful minister of E-ana, my minister who speaks fair words, my escort who speaks trustworthy words

        (1 ms. has instead: I am going to give you instructions: my instructions must be followed;

I am going to say something to you: it must be observed).

“On this day I will descend to the underworld.

When I have arrived in the underworld, make a lament for me on the ruin mounds.

Beat the drum for me in the sanctuary.

Make the rounds of the houses of the gods for me.

“Lacerate your eyes for me, lacerate your nose for me. (1 ms. adds the line: Lacerate your ears for me, in public.)

(Prince Enlil, King Anu‘s son & heir, Commander stationed on Earth Colony)

“Father Enlil, don’t let anyone kill your daughter (granddaughter) in the underworld.

Don’t let your precious metal be alloyed there with the dirt of the underworld.

Don’t let your precious lapis lazuli be split there with the mason’s stone.

Don’t let your boxwood be chopped up there with the carpenter’s wood.

“And if Nanna does not help you in this matter, go to Eridug (Eridu).

In Eridug, when you have entered the house of Enki, lament before Enki:

2a - Enki keeper of the MUs-knowledge disks (Enki, King Anu‘s eldest & wisest son on Earth Colony)

“Father Enki, don’t let anyone kill your daughter in the underworld.

Don’t let your precious metal be alloyed there with the dirt of the underworld.

Don’t let your precious lapis lazuli be split there with the mason’s stone.

“Father Enki, the lord of great wisdom, knows about the life-giving plant and the life-giving water.

He is the one who will restore me to life.

When Inanna traveled on towards the underworld, her minister Nincubur traveled on behind her.

She said to her minister Nincubur:

2 - Ninshubur (Ninshubur, minor goddess giving her support to Inanna)

“Go now, my Nincubur, and pay attention.

Don’t neglect the instructions I gave you.”

When Inanna arrived at the palace Ganzer, she pushed aggressively on the door of the underworld.

She shouted aggressively at the gate of the underworld:

“Open up, doorman, open up. Open up, Neti, open up.

I am all alone and I want to come in.”

(Ereshkigal, naked Inanna‘s descent to the Nether World, & Neti / Namtar)

Neti, the chief doorman of the underworld, answered holy Inanna:

        “Who are you?”

(Inanna’s descent to Under World by way of her winged capsule)

“I am Inanna going to the east.”

“If you are Inanna going to the east, why have you traveled to the land of no return?

How did you set your heart on the road whose traveler never returns?”

        Holy Inanna answered him:

(ancient artifact of the Under World lord, Nergal)

        “Because lord Gud-gal-ana (Nergal), the husband of my elder sister holy Erec-ki-gala (Ereshkigal), has died;

in order to have his funeral rites observed, she offers generous libations at his wake — that is the reason.”

Neti, the chief doorman of the underworld, answered holy Inanna:

“Stay here, Inanna. I will speak to my mistress.

I will speak to my mistress Erec-ki-gala and tell her what you have said.”

Neti, the chief doorman of the underworld, entered the house of his mistress Erec-ki-gala (Ereshkigal) and said:

“My mistress, there is a lone girl outside.

It is Inanna, your sister, and she has arrived at the palace Ganzer.

She pushed aggressively on the door of the underworld.

She shouted aggressively at the gate of the underworld.

She has abandoned E-ana and has descended to the underworld.

“She has taken the seven divine powers (alien technologies).

She has collected the divine powers and grasped them in her hand.

She has come on her way with all the good divine powers.

1aa - Inanna, equipted to fly (Inanna dressed with alien technologies & lapis-lazuli beads)

She has put a turban, headgear for the open country, on her head.

She has taken a wig for her forehead.

She has hung small lapis-lazuli beads around her neck.

“She has placed twin egg-shaped beads on her breast.

She has covered her body with the pala dress of ladyship.

She has placed mascara which is called “Let a man come” on her eyes.

She has pulled the pectoral which is called “Come, man, come” over her breast.

She has placed a golden ring on her hand.

She is holding the lapis-lazuli measuring rod and measuring line in her hand.”

2a - Ereshkigal, Nannar's Daughter (Ereshkigal, Queen of the Under World, seated upon her throne)

When she heard this, Erec-ki-gala slapped the side of her thigh.

She bit her lip and took the words to heart.

She said to Neti, her chief doorman:

“Come Neti, my chief doorman of the underworld, don’t neglect the instructions I will give you.

Let the seven gates of the underworld be bolted.

Then let each door of the palace Ganzer be opened separately.

As for her, after she has entered,

2aa - Hittite, Inanna In Her Skychamber (Neti, Inanna, & Ereshkigal in the Under World)

and crouched down and had her clothes removed, they will be carried away.”

Neti, the chief doorman of the underworld, paid attention to the instructions of his mistress.

He bolted the seven gates of the underworld.

Then he opened each of the doors of the palace Ganzer separately.

He said to holy Inanna: “Come on, Inanna, and enter.”

And when Inanna entered, (1 ms. adds 2 lines: the lapis-lazuli measuring rod and measuring line were removed from her hand,

when she entered the first gate,) the turban, headgear for the open country, was removed from her head.

“What is this?” “Be satisfied, Inanna, a divine power of the underworld has been fulfilled.

Inanna, you must not open your mouth against the rites of the underworld.”

When she entered the second gate, the small lapis-lazuli beads were removed from her neck.

        “What is this?”

“Be satisfied, Inanna, a divine power of the underworld has been fulfilled.

Inanna, you must not open your mouth against the rites of the underworld.”

When she entered the third gate, the twin egg-shaped beads were removed from her breast.

        “What is this?”

“Be satisfied, Inanna, a divine power of the underworld has been fulfilled.

Inanna, you must not open your mouth against the rites of the underworld.”

When she entered the fourth gate, the “Come, man, come” pectoral was removed from her breast.

        “What is this?”

“Be satisfied, Inanna, a divine power of the underworld has been fulfilled.

Inanna, you must not open your mouth against the rites of the underworld.”

When she entered the fifth gate, the golden ring was removed from her hand.

        “What is this?”

“Be satisfied, Inanna, a divine power of the underworld has been fulfilled.

Inanna, you must not open your mouth against the rites of the underworld.”

When she entered the sixth gate, the lapis-lazuli measuring rod and measuring line were removed from her hand.

        “What is this?”

“Be satisfied, Inanna, a divine power of the underworld has been fulfilled.

Inanna, you must not open your mouth against the rites of the underworld.”

4d - Flying Inanna  (Inanna, Goddess of Love, naked & clothed)

When she entered the seventh gate, the pala dress, the garment of ladyship, was removed from her body.

        “What is this?”

“Be satisfied, Inanna, a divine power of the underworld has been fulfilled.

Inanna, you must not open your mouth against the rites of the underworld.”

After she had crouched down and had her clothes removed, they were carried away.

Then she made her sister Erec-ki-gala rise from her throne, and instead she sat on her throne.

The Anuna (Anunnaki), the seven judges, rendered their decision against her.

They looked at her — it was the look of death.

They spoke to her — it was the speech of anger.

They shouted at her — it was the shout of heavy guilt.

The afflicted woman was turned into a corpse.

And the corpse was hung on a hook.

         (Inanna & Ninshuber)

After three days and three nights had passed, her minister Nincubura (Ninshubur)

(2 mss. add 2 lines: , her minister who speaks fair words, her escort who speaks trustworthy words,)

carried out the instructions of her mistress

(1 ms. has instead 2 lines: did not forget her orders, she did not neglect her instructions).

She made a lament for her in her ruined (houses).

She beat the drum for her in the sanctuaries.

She made the rounds of the houses of the gods for her.

She lacerated her eyes for her, she lacerated her nose.

In private she lacerated her buttocks for her.

Like a pauper, she clothed herself in a single garment, and all alone she set her foot in the E-kur, the house of Enlil.

         2c - Nippur (part of Enlil‘s E-kur in Nippur, the mud-brick-built mountain)

When she had entered the E-kur, the house of Enlil, she lamented before Enlil:

“Father Enlil, don’t let anyone kill your daughter in the underworld.

Don’t let your precious metal be alloyed there with the dirt of the underworld.

Don’t let your precious lapis lazuli be split there with the mason’s stone.

Don’t let your boxwood be chopped up there with the carpenter’s wood.

Don’t let young lady Inanna be killed in the underworld.”

In his rage father Enlil answered Nincubura:

“My daughter craved the great heaven and she craved (supremacy of) the great below as well.

Inanna craved the great heaven and she craved the great below as well.

The divine powers of the underworld are divine powers which should not be craved,

for whoever gets them must remain in the underworld.

Who, having got to that place, could then expect to come up again?”

Thus father Enlil did not help in this matter, so she went to Urim.

3a - Nannar's Temple, Ziggourat, Home in Ur (Nannar‘s house with city of Ur way below)

In the E-mud-kura at Urim, when she had entered the E-kic-nu-jal, the house of Nanna, she lamented before Nanna (Nannar):

“Father Nanna, don’t let your daughter be killed in the underworld.

Don’t let your precious metal be alloyed there with the dirt of the underworld.

Don’t let your precious lapis lazuli be split there with the mason’s stone.

Don’t let your boxwood be chopped up there with the carpenter’s wood.

Don’t let young lady Inana be killed in the underworld.”

In his rage father Nanna answered Nincubura:

“My daughter craved the great heaven and she craved the great below as well.

Inanna craved the great heaven and she craved the great below as well.

The divine powers of the underworld are divine powers which should not be craved,

for whoever gets them must remain in the underworld.

Who, having got to that place, could then expect to come up again?”

2ba - Enki's Temple-Ziggourat in Eridu (ruins of Eridu, Enki‘s city buried in time by thousands of years)

Thus father Nanna did not help her in this matter, so she went to Eridug (Eridu).

In Eridug, when she had entered the house of Enki, she lamented before Enki:

“Father Enki, don’t let anyone kill your daughter in the underworld.

Don’t let your precious metal be alloyed there with the dirt of the underworld.

Don’t let your precious lapis lazuli be split there with the mason’s stone.

Don’t let your boxwood be chopped up there with the carpenter’s wood.

Don’t let young lady Inanna be killed in the underworld.”

        Father Enki answered Nincubura:

        “What has my daughter done?

        She has me worried.

        What has Inanna done?

        She has me worried.

What has the mistress of all the lands done?

        She has me worried.

What has the hierodule of An (Anu) done?

        She has me worried.”

(1 ms. adds 1 line: Thus father Enki helped her in this matter.)

2 - Enki, the wisest god (statue of Enki & thousands more, now shamefully destroyed by Radical Islam, fearing our early history)

He removed some dirt from the tip of his fingernail and created the kur-jara.

He removed some dirt from the tip of his other fingernail and created the gala-tura.

To the kur-jara he gave the life-giving plant.

3c - Enki in the Abzu

(plant of life given to Noah by Enlil;   Enki, patron god of Eridu, god of waters, wisest of gods)

To the gala-tura he gave the life-giving water.

Then father Enki spoke out to the gala-tura and the kur-jara:

“(1 ms. has instead the line: One of you sprinkle the life-giving plant over her, and the other the life-giving water.)

Go and direct your steps to the underworld.

Flit past the door like flies.

Slip through the door pivots like phantoms.

(Ereshkigal, giant Queen of the Under World)

The mother who gave birth, Erec-ki-gala, on account of her children, is lying there.

Her holy shoulders are not covered by a linen cloth.

Her breasts are not full like a cagan vessel.

Her nails are like a pickaxe (?) upon her.

The hair on her head is bunched up as if it were leeks.

“When she says “Oh my heart”, you are to say “You are troubled, our mistress, oh your heart”.

When she says “Oh my liver”, you are to say “You are troubled, our mistress, oh your liver”.

(She will then ask:) “Who are you?

Speaking to you from my heart to your heart, from my liver to your liver —

if you are gods, let me talk with you; if you are mortals, may a destiny be decreed for you.”

Make her swear this by heaven and earth.

        1 line fragmentary

“They will offer you a river full of water — don’t accept it.

They will offer you a field with its grain — don’t accept it.

But say to her: “Give us the corpse hanging on the hook.”

(She will answer:) “That is the corpse of your queen.”

Say to her: “Whether it is that of our king, whether it is that of our queen, give it to us.”

She will give you the corpse hanging on the hook.

One of you sprinkle on it the life-giving plant and the other the life-giving water.

        Thus let Inanna arise.”

The gala-tura and the kur-jara paid attention to the instructions of Enki.

They flitted through the door like flies.

They slipped through the door pivots like phantoms.

The mother who gave birth, Erec-ki-gala, because of her children, was lying there.

Her holy shoulders were not covered by a linen cloth.

Her breasts were not full like a cagan vessel.

Her nails were like a pickaxe (?) upon her.

(Ereshkigal, Queen of the Under World, naked Inanna & unidentified)

The hair on her head was bunched up as if it were leeks.

When she said “Oh my heart”, they said to her

You are troubled, our mistress, oh your heart”.

When she said “Oh my liver”, they said to her

“You are troubled, our mistress, oh your liver”.

(Then she asked:) “Who are you?

        I tell you from my heart to your heart, from my liver to your liver — if you are gods, I will talk with you;

if you are mortals, may a destiny be decreed for you.”

They made her swear this by heaven and earth.

        They …….

They were offered a river with its water — they did not accept it.

They were offered a field with its grain — they did not accept it.

They said to her: “Give us the corpse hanging on the hook.”

Holy Erec-ki-gala answered the gala-tura and the kur-jara:

“The corpse is that of your queen.”

        They said to her:

“Whether it is that of our king or that of our queen, give it to us.”

They were given the corpse hanging on the hook.

One of them sprinkled on it the life-giving plant and the other the life-giving water.

        And thus Inanna arose.

Erec-ki-gala said to the gala-tura and the kur-jara:

“Bring your queen ……, your …… has been seized.”

Inanna, because of Enki‘s instructions, was about to ascend from the underworld.

But as Inana was about to ascend from the underworld, the Anuna seized her:

“Who has ever ascended from the underworld, has ascended unscathed from the underworld?

If Inanna is to ascend from the underworld, let her provide a substitute for herself.”

        So when Inanna left the underworld, the one in front of her, though not a minister, held a scepter in his hand;

the one behind her, though not an escort, carried a mace at his hip, while the small demons, like a reed enclosure,

and the big demons, like the reeds of a fence, restrained her on all sides.

Those who accompanied her, those who accompanied Inana,

know no food, know no drink, eat no flour offering and drink no libation.

        They accept no pleasant gifts.

They never enjoy the pleasures of the marital embrace, never have any sweet children to kiss.

They tear away the wife from a man’s embrace.

They snatch the son from a man’s knee.

They make the bride leave the house of her father-in-law (instead of lines 300-305, 1 ms. has 2 lines:

They take the wife away from a man’s embrace.

They take away the child hanging on a wet-nurse’s breasts).

(1 ms. adds 3 lines: They crush no bitter garlic.

They eat no fish, they eat no leeks.

They, it was, who accompanied Inanna.)

After Inanna had ascended from the underworld, Nincubura (Ninshubur) threw herself at her feet at the door of the Ganzer.

She had sat in the dust and clothed herself in a filthy garment.

The demons said to holy Inanna:

“Inanna, proceed to your city, we will take her back.”

2c - Iananna, Goddess of Love & War (Inanna, daughter to Nannar & Ningal, widowed by Dumuzi)

        Holy Inanna answered the demons:

“This is my minister of fair words, my escort of trustworthy words.

She did not forget my instructions.

She did not neglect the orders I gave her.

She made a lament for me on the ruin mounds.

She beat the drum for me in the sanctuaries.

She made the rounds of the gods’ houses for me.

She lacerated her eyes for me, lacerated her nose for me.

(1 ms. adds 1 line: She lacerated her ears for me in public.)

In private, she lacerated her buttocks for me.

Like a pauper, she clothed herself in a single garment.

        3a-nippur-ziggurat-enlils-home-on-earth 2e-enlils-home-in-nippur  (E-kur, Enlil‘s Earth Colony Command Central)

“All alone she directed her steps to the E-kur, to the house of Enlil,

and to Urim, to the house of Nanna, and to Eridug, to the house of Enki. (1 ms. adds 1 line: She wept before Enki.)

She brought me back to life.

How could I turn her over to you?

        Let us go on.

Let us go on to the Sig-kur-caga in Umma.”

At the Sig-kur-caga in Umma, Cara (Shara, Inanna‘s son), in his own city, threw himself at her feet.

He had sat in the dust and dressed himself in a filthy garment.

The demons said to holy Inanna:

“Inana, proceed to your city, we will take him back.”

        Holy Inanna answered the demons:

“Cara is my singer, my manicurist and my hairdresser.

How could I turn him over to you? Let us go on.

Let us go on to the E-muc-kalama in Bad-tibira.”

At the E-muc-kalama in Bad-tibira, Lulal, in his own city, threw himself at her feet.

He had sat in the dust and clothed himself in a filthy garment.

The demons said to holy Inanna:

“Inanna, proceed to your city, we will take him back.”

        Holy Inanna answered the demons:

“Outstanding Lulal follows me at my right and my left.

How could I turn him over to you? Let us go on.

Let us go on to the great apple tree in the plain of Kulaba.”

They followed her to the great apple tree in the plain of Kulaba.

There was Dumuzid (Dumuzi) clothed in a magnificent garment and seated magnificently on a throne.

The demons seized him there by his thighs.

The seven of them poured the milk from his churns.

The seven of them shook their heads like …….

They would not let the shepherd play the pipe and flute before her (?).

She looked at him, it was the look of death.

She spoke to him (?), it was the speech of anger.

She shouted at him (?), it was the shout of heavy guilt:

“How much longer? Take him away.”

6 - Inanna, Dumuzi, & the Underworld (Inanna with Dumuzi in the Nether World)

Holy Inanna gave Dumuzid the shepherd into their hands.

Those who had accompanied her, who had come for Dumuzid,

know no food, know no drink, eat no flour offering, drink no libation.

They never enjoy the pleasures of the marital embrace, never have any sweet children to kiss.

They snatch the son from a man’s knee.

They make the bride leave the house of her father-in-law.

5 - Utu protects Dumuzi (demons tasked with killing Dumuzi)

Dumuzid let out a wail and turned very pale.

2a - Utu, Shamash, twin to Inanna (Utu, Inanna‘s twin brother, son to Nannar & Ningal)

The lad raised his hands to heaven, to Utu:

“Utu, you are my brother-in-law. I am your relation by marriage.

I brought butter to your mother’s house.

I brought milk to Ningal‘s (Nannar‘s spouse) house.

Turn my hands into snake’s hands and turn my feet into snake’s feet,

       2a-dumuzi-the-shepherd-adam-eve  (Dumuzi‘s hands & feet in cuffs)

so I can escape my demons, let them not keep hold of me.”

Utu accepted his tears. (1 ms. adds 1 line: Dumuzid‘s demons could not keep hold of him.)

Utu turned Dumuzid‘s hands into snake’s hands. He turned his feet into snake’s feet.

2 - Dumuzi, youngest son to Enki (Dumuzi escaped demons with help from Utu, his brother-in-law)

Dumuzid escaped his demons. (1 ms. adds 1 line: Like a sajkal snake he …….)

        They seized …….

        2 lines fragmentary

        Holy Inanna …… her heart.

Holy Inanna wept bitterly for her husband.

        4 lines fragmentary

She tore at her hair like esparto grass, she ripped it out like esparto grass.

“You wives who lie in your men’s embrace, where is my precious husband?

You children who lie in your men’s embrace, where is my precious child?

Where is my man? Where ……? Where is my man? Where ……?”

A fly spoke to holy Inanna:

“If I show you where your man is, what will be my reward?”

        Holy Inanna answered the fly:

“If you show me where my man is, I will give you this gift: I will cover …….”

The fly helped (?) holy Inanna.

The young lady Inanna decreed the destiny of the fly:

“In the beer-house and the tavern (?), may there …… for you.

You will live (?) like the sons of the wise.”

Now Inanna decreed this fate and thus it came to be.

        …… was weeping.

She came up to the sister (?) and …… by the hand:

        “Now, alas, my …….

You for half the year and your sister for half the year: when you are demanded, on that day you will stay,

when your sister is demanded, on that day you will be released.”

6b - Inanna & Dumuzi in the Underworld (Inanna reaches for her spouse Dumuzi in the Nether World)

Thus holy Inanna gave Dumuzid as a substitute …….

Holy Erec-ki-gala (Ereshkigal) — sweet is your praise.

The Descent of Ishtar

Babylonian account on how Ishtar, the Great Goddess of Love and War, descended through the seven gates of the Underworld to find her beloved,Tammuz. Enjoy a tale of resurrection and love beyond death! From Ancient Near Eastern Texts, translated by E.A. Speiser

(Enki‘s creation = creatures, etc.)

2 - Ereshkigal (Ereshkigal, Queen of the Under World, spouse to Nergal)

To the Land of No Return, the realm of Ereshkigal,

Ishtar (Inanna), the daughter of the Moon (Nannar), set her mind.

To the dark house, the abode of Irkalla (Ereshkigal‘s temple / residence in the Under World),

To the house which none leave who have entered it,

To the road from which there is no way back,

To the house wherein the entrants are bereft of light,

Where dust is their fare and clay their food,

Where they see no light, residing in darkness,

Where they are clothed like birds, with wings for garments,

And where over door and bolt is spread dust.

When Ishtar reached the gate of the Land of No Return,

She said to the gatekeeper:

“O gatekeeper, open thy gate, Open thy gate so I may enter!

If thou openest not the gate so that I cannot enter, I will smash the door, I will shatter the bolt,

I will smash the doorpost, I will move the doors, I will raise up the dead eating the living,

So that the dead will outnumber the living.”

The gatekeeper opened his mouth to speak,

Saying to exalted Ishtar (Inanna):

“Stop, my lady, do not throw it down!

I will go to announce thy name to Queen Ereshkigal.”

4aa-hittite-inanna-in-her-skychamber  (Inanna arrives in the Under World, gatekeeper Namtar & Ereshkigal approach her)

The gatekeeper entered, saying to Ereshkigal:

“Behold, they sister Ishtar (Inanna) is waiting at the gate,

She who upholds the great festivals,

2aa-enki-found-in-sins-temple-at-khorsabad  (Enki, King Anu‘s eldest & wisest Prince on Earth, 1st to arrive with a crew of 50)

Who stirs up the deep before Ea (Enki), the king.”

When Ereshkigal heard this, her face turned pale like a cut-down tamarisk,

While her lips turned dark like a bruised kuninu-reed.

What drove her heart to me?

What impelled her spirit hither?

3-ereshkigal-inanna-nannar-utu-goat-sacrifice (Inanna, Nannar, Utu, Ereshkigal; Inanna, etc. repeats)

Lo, should I drink water with the Anunnaki?

Should I eat clay for bread, drink muddied water for beer?

Should I bemoan the men who left their wives behind?

Should I bemoan the maidens who were wretched from the laps of their lovers?

Or should I bemoan the tender little one who was sent off before his time?

Go, gatekeeper, open the gate for her,

Treat her in accordance with the ancient rules.”

Forth went the gatekeeper to open the door for her:

“Enter, my lady, that Cutha may rejoice over thee,

That the palace of the Land of No Return may be glad at they presence.”

4d-ninlil-followed-enlil-to-ereshkigals-underworld  (Queen Ereshkigal in the Under World)

When the first gate he had made her enter,

He stripped and took away the great crown on her head.

“Why, o gatekeeper, didst thou take the great crown on my head?”

“Enter, my lady, thus are the rules of the Mistress of the Underworld.”

2i - Inanna is taken by Ereshkigal (Ereshkigal has Inanna stripped of weapons & clothes)

When the second gate he had made her enter,

He stripped and took away the pendants on her ears.

“Why, O gatekeeper, didst thou take the pendants on my ears?”

“Enter, my lady, thus are the rules of the Mistress of the Underworld.”

When the third gate he had made her enter,

He stripped and took away the chains round her neck.

“Why, O gatekeeper, didst thou take the chains round my neck?”

“Enter, my lady, thus are the rules of the Mistress of the Underworld.”

When the fourth gate he had made her enter,

He stripped and took away the ornaments on her breast.

“Why, O gatekeeper, didst thou take the ornaments on my breast?”

“Enter, my lady, thus are the rules of the Mistress of the Underworld.”

When the fifth gate he had made her enter,

He stripped and took away the girdle of birthstones on her hips.

“Why, O gatekeeper, didst thou take the girdle of birthstones on my hips?”

“Enter, my lady, thus are the rules of the Mistress of the Underworld.”

When the sixth gate he had made her enter,

He stripped and took away the clasps round her hands and feet.

“Why, O gatekeeper, didst thou take the clasps round my hands and feet?”

“Enter, my lady, thus are the rules of the Mistress of the Underworld.”

When the seventh gate he had made her enter,

He stripped and took away the breechcloth round her body.

“Why, O gatekeeper, didst thou take the breechcloth round my body?”

“Enter, my lady, thus are the rules of the Mistress of the Underworld.”

As soon as Ishtar had descended to the Land of No Return,

4d - Flying Inanna (Inanna with mixed-breed kings, naked & dressed)

Ereshkigal saw her and burst out at her presence.

Ishtar, unreflecting, flew at her.

Ereshkigal opened her mouth to speak,

“Go, Namtar, lock her up in my palace!

Release against her the sixty miseries:

Misery of the eyes against her eyes,

Misery of the sides against her sides,

Misery of the heart against her heart,

Misery of the feet against her feet,

Misery of the head against her head –

Against every part of her, against her whole body!”

After Lady Ishtar had descended to the nether world,

The bull springs not upon the cow, the ass impregnates not the jenny,

In the street the man impregnates not the maiden.

The man lies in his own chamber, the maiden lies on her side.

4m-utu-inanna-nannar  (Utu, Inanna, Nannar, & damaged Papsukal, Nannar‘s children)

The countenance of Papsukkal (Nannar‘s son), the vizier of the great gods,

Was fallen, his face was clouded

He was clad in mourning, long hair he wore.

Forth went Papsukkal before Ea (Enki), the king:

Ishtar has gone down to the nether world, she has not come up.

Since Ishtar (Inanna) has gone down to the Land of No Return,

The bull springs not upon the cow, the ass impregnates not the jenny,

In the street the man impregnates not the maiden.

The man lies down in his own chamber,

The maiden lies down on her side.”

3g-pilotapkulla-enki  (winged eagle-headed Apkulla, & Ea / Enki, god of waters)

Ea in his wise heart conceived an image,

And created Asushunamir, a eunuch:

“Up, Asushunamir, set thy face to the gate of the Land of No Return:

The seven gates of the Land of No Return shall be opened for thee.

Ereshkigal shall see thee and rejoice at thy presence.

When her heart has calmed, her mood is happy,

Let her utter the oath of the great gods.

Then lift up thy head, paying mind to the life-water bag:

“Pray, lady, let them give me the life-water bag that water therefrom I may drink.”

2a-ereshkigal-nannars-daughter  (Ereshkigal seated on her throne in the Under World / Nether World)

As soon as Ereshkigal heard this,

She smote her thigh, bit her finger:

“Thou didst request of me a thing that should not be requested.

Come, Asushunamir, I will curse thee with a mighty curse!

The food of the city’s gutters shall be thy food,

The sewers of the city shall be thy drink.

The threshold shall be thy habitation,

The besotted and the thirsty shall smite they cheek!”

Ereshkigal opened her mouth to speak,

Saying these words to Namtar, her vizier:

“Up, Namtar, knock at Egalgina,

Adorn the thresholds with the coral-stone,

1h-procession-lg  (Anunnaki aliens, royal family of giant gods on Earth)

Bring forth the Anunnaki, seated them on thrones of gold,

Sprinkle Ishtar with the water of life and take her from my presence!”

Forth went Namtar, knocked at Egalgina,

Adorned the thresholds with coral-stone,

Brought forth the Anunnaki, seated them on thrones of gold,

Sprinkled Ishtar with the water of life and took her from her presence.

When through the first gate he had made her go out,

He returned to her the breechcloth for her body.

When through the second gate he had made her go out,

He returned to her the clasps for her hands and feet.

When through the third gate he had made her go out,

He returned to her the birthstone girdle for her hips.

When through the fourth gate he had made her go out,

He returned to her the ornaments for her breasts.

When through the fifth gate he had made her go out,

He returned to her the chains for her neck.

When through the sixth gate he had made her go out,

He returned to her the pendants for her ears.

When through the seventh gate he had made her go out,

He returned to her the great crown for her head.

“If she does not give thee her ransom price, bring her back.

As for Tammuz (Dumuzi), the lover of her youth,

Wash him with pure water, anoint him with sweet oil:

Clothe him with a red garment, let him play on a flute of lapis.

Let the courtesans turn his mood.”

When Belili (Geshtinanna) was stringing her jewelry,

And her lap was filled with “eye-stones,”

On hearing the sound of her brother, Belili struck the jewelry on…

So that the “eye-stones” filled the…

On the day when Tammuz (Dumuzi) comes up to me,

When with him the lapis flute and the carnelian ring come up to me,

When with him the wailing men and wailing women come up to me,

May the dead rise and smell the incense.

1c-astarte-hittite-goddess-of-love (Inanna‘s bead jewelry falls to her bare breasts)

Let the double strand of beads fall to her breast

And wrapped the royal robe round her body

She daubed her eyes with ointment called ‘let him come, let him come!’

Bound the breastplate called ‘come, man, come!’ around her chest

Slipped the gold ring over her wrist

And took the lapis measuring rod and line in her hand.

Inanna spoke to her faithful servant Ninshubur:

(Inanna, Goddess of Love & War in her war dress, & wearing jewelry)

Inanna:

Ninshubur, my support and counselor,

My warrior who fights by my side.

I am descending to the underworld

If I do not return, set up a lament for me

2a-nannar-statue-2000-b-c"God with a golden hand", initially completely gilded. The god wears a long "kaunakes" which leaves one shoulder free, typical of all divinities since Akkadian periods. From Susa, early 2nd mill.BCE. Copper and gold, H: 17,5 cm AO 2823 (Enlil, son Nannar, & 1/2 older brother Enki)

Go to see the Great Ones, Enlil, Nanna, and Enki

Do not let this holy priestess of heaven

1ba-inanna-spouse-dumuzi  (young lover aliens Inanna & Dumuzi, daughter to Nannar, son to Enki)

Be put to death in the underworld

Go to see the Great Gods

For surely they will not let me die

Go now, Ninshubur.

Do not forget the words I have commanded you.’

2a - Inanna & perhaps Ninshubur (Apkulla / eagle-winged pilots on the ends, Inanna, & Ninshubur kneeling)

Ninshubur:

‘Your wish is my command, my lady, I’ll do as I am told’.

4d - Flying Inanna (Inanna with mixed-breed kings, Inanna naked & dressed)

Narrator:

When Inanna arrived at the outer gates of the underworld

She knocked loudly.

Inanna:

‘Open the door! I alone would enter!’

Narrator:

Neti, the chief gatekeeper (of the Under World) of the kur, asked:

‘Who are you? Why has your heart led you on the road of no return?’

5a-inanna-in-underworld-dumuzi-looks-on

(Nergal, Inanna, Dumuzi, unidentified god, & giant mixed-breed high-priest & king)

Inanna:

‘I am Inanna, Queen of Heaven, on my way to the East’.

I came … because of my older sister Ereshkigal,

Her husband, Gugalanna (Nergal), the Bull of Heaven has died.

I have come to witness the funeral rites.

Let it be done’.

Narrator:

The chief gatekeeper of the underworld, entered the palace of Ereshkigal, the Queen of the Underworld, and said:

‘My queen, your sister, Inanna, Queen of Heaven, waits outside the palace gates.

She has gathered together the Seven Sacred Measures;

She waits out there.’

(Ereshkigal, Queen goddess of the Under World)

Ereshkigal:

(She hears the message, makes a sign of annoyance, takes the matter into her heart and finally speaks):

‘So my sister is here!

Come, my chief gatekeeper, heed my words:

Bolt the seven gates of the underworld

Then, one by one, open each gate a crack

Let Inanna enter, let my sister in

But as she enters, remove her royal garments

Let the holy priestess of heaven enter bowed low.’

2i - Inanna is taken by Ereshkigal  (naked Inanna in her winged shem / command module, Namtar, Neti, & sister Ereshkigal in the Under World)

Narrator:

At each gate Inanna had to leave a garment

At each of the seven gates Inanna had to surrender a Sacred Measure

Only then, naked and bowed low

She could enter Eternity

She could face the Holy, Dark and Eternal Ereshkigal

Inanna (kneels in front of Ereshkigal):

(Ereshkigal, Inanna, & Neti; Inanna captured, stripped naked, & killed by sister Ereshkigal)

Ereshkigal strikes Inanna dead:

‘I’ll turn you into a corpse, a piece of rotting meat, stay there, hanging on a hook on the wall’.

Narrator:

After three days and three nights, Inanna had not returned, Ninshubur set up a lament for her everywhere

2 - Ninshubur  (Ninshubur, Inanna‘s minister / servant, minor supportive goddess to Royal Family member Inanna; Ninshubur & Inanna)

Ninshubur, the faithful servant, dressed as a beggar in mourning

Set out for the temple of the Great Gods

To seek out help for Inanna.

Ninshubur (talking to Enki):

‘Father Enki,

3d-inanna-riding-ninhursag  (Inanna, her 8-pointed star symbol of Venus, & many symbols of the gods)

God of Wisdom, help our Morning and Evening Star (Inanna / goddess of Venus)

Or the world will never be the same as it was’.

2a - Enki keeper of the MUs-knowledge disks (Enki, King Anu‘s eldest & wisest son, 1st to arrive on Earth Colony with his crew of 50)

Enki:

‘I’ll fashion a kurgarra and a galatur,

Creatures neither male nor female, saying to them:

5a-dumuzi-is-dead  (deceased Inanna, & Ereshkigal moaning as if giving birth)

‘Go to the Underworld, where Ereshkigal, the Queen, is moaning as a woman about to give birth

Show her compassion, she will be pleased.

She will offer you a gift

Ask her only for the corpse that hangs from the hook on the wall.

Sprinkle food of life on it, sprinkle water of life on it. Inanna will then arise.’

Narrator:

The kurgarra and the galatur did as they were told.

They found Ereshkigal moaning as in labor, and gave compassion to the Queen of the Underworld.

(Ereshkigal, Queen of the Under World / Nether World, spouse to Nergal)

Ereshkigal:

No one has ever shown compassion to me

Alone I live in the depths of the Earth

As you cared about my pain I grant your wish

Take Inanna‘s body! It is yours: take it!’

Narrator:

Inanna‘s body was given to the kurgarra and the galatur,

Who sprinkled it with food and water of life Inanna came back to life

But she had been to the Underworld

She was transformed, she was reborn

So changed, Inanna could not ascend

 (Ereshkigal, Inanna, & father Nannar)

Ereshkigal:

Inanna, no one ascends from the underworld unmarked

If you wish to return from the Underworld

You must provide someone in your place.

Narrator:

As Inanna ascended from the underworld

The galla, demons clung to her

One walking in front, the other walking behind

Ever watchful for a replacement for the Goddess in sight.

Many were those who mourned for the Goddess,

Many were those who grieved for Inanna.

Many rejoiced as they saw her back.

Only in Uruk nothing seemed to have changed

3e-anus-temple-in-uruk 3j-anus-temple  (Anu‘s & Inanna‘s home / temple / residence in Uruk)

Only in Uruk someone didn’t seem to notice or care

About Inanna‘s absence and strange come back.

Only Dumuzi, who shared with her the Sacred Marriage bed,

Didn’t grieve, didn’t mourn or for the Goddess showed despair.

2b-dumuzi-the-shepherd  (Dumuzi the Shepherd, son to Enki & Ninsun)

In shining garments, on the throne of sovereignty he sat, Dumuzi the Shepherd and King.

Bright as the sun, showing no signs of grief or concern.

Inanna fastened on him the eye of death

And spoke the word of wrath and pain:

6 - Inanna, Dumuzi, & the Underworld (Dumuzi in Under World, alien gods that live forever, were indeed mortal)

Inanna:

‘Take the one who didn’t grieve for me, take him, take Dumuzi away!’

Narrator:

The galla didn’t wait or hesitate, and took Dumuzi from the Goddess’ sight away.

Before All Befores

How the Earth Mother and Queen fell in love with the Skyfather and King

RETELLINGS by Lishtar

https://earth-history.com/

At the heart of Ancient Mesopotamian religion, there was the Sacred Marriage of Heaven and Earth, the wondrous coming together of matching polarities to engender a new whole. This was probably how this time-honored ritual came into being for the first time. For Lillith of Lusitânia

(Texts: All Artifacts, Color Coding, & Writings in Bold Type With Italics Inside Parenthesis, are Added by Editor R. Brown, not the Authors, Translators, or Publishers!)

(gods in blue)

Before All Befores, there was Nammu (King Anu’s concubine & mother to many royals), the Sea,

She the Origin, Ever flowing Beginning.

              (Nammu statues from Mesopotamia)

Nammu was the First, the Source, the Mother of the Universe, the Self-Procreating Womb of Abundance,

Alone and All-In-One, Nammu was Primal Matter, the Deep Fertile Waters of the Sea.

Before All Befores (for time was yet to be),

(DNA symbol of earthling double helix spiral)

Nammu revolved and flowed, squeezed, coiled and rushed like a double helix spiral.

Love she made for the first time to HerSelf, and she in Pure Joy reveled.

Nammu’s waters then opened up: she had given birth to Ki-An,

Creation’s first born, She the Mountain, He the Sky.

Before all Befores, wrapped around the liquid Body of the Mother,

Ki the Mountain, An the Sky held each other close in a most tender embrace.

Ki the Mountain, An the Sky lay in each other’s arms before all befores,

(Anu the Sky in his winged sky-disc with sons Enlil & Enki)

when An was an empty Sky, Ki a stony earth, laying barren and unfulfilled

within Nammu’s fecund body fluid (Nammu is mother to Enki, Bau, Martu, sometimes Ereshkigal, etc.).

As Ki and An lay closer and closer still, something stirred, deep from within.

Love that bound An and Ki together brought into being a Sigh,

(Lord Air Enlil, King Anu‘s son & heir)

a Wind, a First Breath, and so was Enlil, Infant Lord Air (Enlil), manifested.

Thus, life throbbed in Cheerful Continuation, as An, the Mighty Bull of Heaven,

made love fifty times (and more!) to Ki, his Beloved, the All-Powerful Cow of Earth.

Ki (Anu’s official spouse Antu, mother to double-seed son Enlil) responded to An’s enthusiasm and passion in kind.

She made herself resplendent, for her brother-spouse she beautified joyously her body with the most precious metals,

fuels and lapis lazuli, she adorned herself with diorite, chalcedony and shiny carnelian.

(Anunnaki King, Skyfather An / Anu in his winged sky-disc, Nannar too)

So did the Skyfather An (Anu) array himself in a cloak of the purest azure

to greet his dearest sister-spouse Ki (sometimes Ninhursag, sometimes Antu).

Then in great joy and reverence An, who called himself then Heaven approached Ki, whom he called Earth.

AnHeaven dived into Ki’s welcoming expanse.

Then Sky kissed Ki, pouring the semen of Trees,

Reeds and pastures into the beloved’s womb.

Ki, fecund, brave, sweet Earth, was impregnated with the rich semen of Heaven,

and joyfully gave birth to the plants of life.

Luxuriantly did Earth bear the rich produce, generously did she exude wine and honey.

Gleefully, she invited the Skies into herself over and over again.

Fifty times (and more!), Sky came into the Earth.

Fifty times (and more!), An’s seed met Ki’s; fifty times (and more!), An’s seed grew in Ki’s;

fifty times (and more!), An and Ki made love, and so the Anunnaki,

the first Generation of Gods (Anu‘s descendants only), in Ki’s womb was formed, as yet unnamed, waiting to be born.

Only Enlil (born of the “double-seed” law of succession to King Anu’s crown),

first of the Anunnaki (the second son to Anueldest son is Enki born of Anu’s favorite concubine Nammu),

Infant Lord Air (Enlil) was there within An’s and Ki’s (Antu’s) lap, all surrounded by Nammu’s Depths.

Nammu feels and sees everything.

She must now create space for her offspring.

Under Ki, surrounding Enlil, above An, Nammu arches and stretches,

her Watery Form to further Depths she directs.

Nammu defines HerSelf as the First Ocean, cradle of other life forms to come.

Mine are the Depths reaching out to the Surface’, decrees the Fates Nammu,

mine is the Process of Becoming out of Nothing’s embrace.

mine is the Nurturing Womb, Life’s first Mystery, mine is the Silence that all Life Created.’

Enlil, who was An’s Divine Inspiration and Ki’s First Sigh of Exultation,

the first of the Great Gods to be born, struggled to grow.

Then, a Movement, Energy and Direction.

1ae - Enlil, Babylonian  (Enlil, King Anu‘s Earth Colony Commander)

It was Enlil seeking Expansion.

He grows stronger still, eager for his Destiny to fulfill.

Out of his parents’ embrace he wants to escape off to unconquered Spaces.

Growth out of the protective Nest, all by himself, this is Enlil’s first Quest.

Thus he summons his Might from within, and manifests without as a Great Wind.

Focused, Penetrating, Directed, Enlil’s might cuts through An’s and Ki’s embrace,

on through the fluid body of Mother Nammu.

A roar, a Bang is then heard, and so are the Bull of Heaven and Cow of Earth once and for all separated.

What primal Oneness once was becomes Multiplicity.

This was the beginning of Evolution, the never-ending Adventure of Being

that transcends in Search for Wholeness and Fruition.

Nammu sees the changes that take place, and once again the All-Powerful Mother decrees the fate of Her firstborns:

3a - Anu in flight  (Anu in his winged sky-disc, king of the Anunnaki giants on Earth)

An, Beloved Son, from now on you will be ever Above. the Sphere of the Heights will be yours to protect

Let it be called Upper-world (Nibiru), whereupon the Lights of the Spirit will thread.

Knowledge, Inspiration, Dreams and Visions will be yours to share.

Ki, Dearest Daughter, you will lay on my surface, for I need to feel your presence, your embrace.

Let your abode be called Middleworld (Earth),

Sphere of Form and Substance, mundane reality and physical home of everything that lives and grows.

And to give sustenance to That Which is Above, in the Middle and Below, let another realm be found.

I’ll call it Underworld, source of Memory of what was, is and will be,

land of Challenge, realm that will go beyond my very Depths,

Inner Essence that gives Form and Spirit sustenance.

2a - Enlil, Anu's son & heir

(alien giant gods with very long beards, Anu & his descendants wear royal crowns of animal horns)

Meanwhile, Young Enlil, will dance and stretch, his Formless Power is the Universe’s First Breath.

So will My Seed be in everything there Is to Be as the Inner Power to Grow

and Transform in Multiple combinations of all Sorts.’

Ki, looking up to the Skies, to An, her Brother Spouse, longed for his closeness and touch.

Bits of herself to the Skies reach out, searching for An, dancing all round, up, down and round they fly.

Ki contemplated this mystery and revealed its Meaning: An, beloved, Soul of my Body,

bound as One we can no longer be, but the Intangible that united us still exists.

By the Primeval Unity we once were, may all hear what I now declare:

That which is Below will ever be linked to that which is Above here and there I dare to fare!’

From Above, An looked down at his sister-spouse Ki (Antu), longing for her closeness and kiss.

Ki, Beloved, Body of My Soul, bound as One we can no longer be, but the Intangible that united us still exists.

So from the Highest Place I’ll watch over you, My Love.

I claim then as mine the Heavens, the Supreme Heights Above

And by the Primeval Unity we once were, may all hear what I now declare:

that Which is Above will be ever united to that Which is Below.

And to remind the Universe of this Great Truth, the horned crown upon the shrine I take as symbols of mine.

May the Universe never forget that the Bull of Heaven and Cow of Earth are one everywhere I dare to fare.’

Enlil contemplates the changes taking place.

Out of An’s and Ki’s nest, all by himself, the Primal Mover of the Universe feels bereft.

He then utters a Statement of Regret and a Request

Alone, all alone, I cannot be, so I ask you,

Mother, please stay with me! I need your touch and Company.

I vow from now on to guard you and protect you everywhere I go, your safety more important than my own.

So I ask to take Ki, the Earth, my Mother with me, and together we will build Ways to Eternity.

I’ll be Breath, you’ll be Form.

Please, dearest Mother, come right along and let’s the Universe transform!’

In the Heights Above, An wept, his tears Nammu’s waters met.

In the vastness of Nammu’s nurturing Depths, the Skyfather surrenders to a heartfelt sorrow for Ki,

longing for her lost love and kiss.

Nammu accepts the bittersweet tears of her firstborn, and he loses himself in her, accepting her tenderness and love.

Mother and Son, An and Nammu, meet and make sweet love, and from the mingling of their bodies a boy and a girl,

2aa - Enki, found in Sin's temple at Khorsabad2 - Ereshkigal (Enki; Ereshkigal, alien giant descendants of King Anu)

Divine Twins (to Nammu) are born.

Enki and Ereshkigal (Ninhursag is Enki‘s twin), you I call,’ says Nammu. ‘

May the Wisdom of the Depths to you belong!

As high as An rests Above, as Deep as my Waters go below, so will you two go: as Within so Without.

Inner Beauty is your Quest, revealed for all to know!’

NINHURSAG‘S CHILDREN

(BEFORE ALL BEFORES II)

How the Great God/desses and Cosmic Powers came into being

A retelling on the birth of the Great Gods and Goddesses, and the Dark Guardians, the ones who are sometimes our best teachers, if we can see and act beyond their trials

(Texts: All Artifacts, Color Coding, & Writings in Bold Type With Italics Inside Parenthesis, are Added by Editor R. Brown, not the Authors, Translators, or Publishers!)

(gods in blue)

Ki, the Great Cosmic Mound, hardly had time to cry for the loss of Anu, the Skyfather,

her Beloved and Soul Counterpart, for something extremely important was about to happen:

‘Soon, very soon, I know, the time will come, the sacred time of Birth’,

said the Great Goddess, ‘then I will give birth to the Divine Babies,

the Great Gods and Goddess, sons and daughters of mine and Anu, offspring of our great love.

(alien Anunnaki King Anu in his winged sky-disc)

Ah, Anu, from the Great Above wherever you are, my love, watch over me

and those who will grow up to adore you in the Depths Below!’

To her surprise, deep with tenderness and love the voice of the Skyfather sounded loud and true:

‘Body of my Soul, Womb to my Seed, wherever you or my children go in all worlds,

look up skywards and I will be there watching over you.

By my word, by my very being, I bind myself to you from all Heights I trail upon!’

Delighted, Ki blew a kiss to the skies, and took action.

To welcome the gods and goddesses to be

She needed a place, a most special place: safe, sacred, pure and sound around herself.

I wish a birth rut, a holy hill, and sacred mound, whereupon the Anunnaki, my very seed and Anu‘s,

the first gods and goddesses, your brothers and sisters, Enlil, will be first found.

I’ll call this place Duku, creation chamber of the world, place of the truest judgments, Integrity and Discernment.

Thus, once and for all I reaffirm the Bond Between Heaven and Earth,

3a - Enlil's Ekur-House in Nippur

(Enlil’s temple / residence in Nippur–Earth Colony Command Center, top added by American archaeologists around 1900)

the Holy Duranki between the Great Below and the Depths Above.

And as I will, so be it!’

Enlil promptly gathered all stones his hands and eyes found.

Ki plastered them her belly round, thus newly created shapes appeared on the ground.

Ki, Lady Fashioner, panted and squeezed until her babies, seed of An and her own, came tumbling without.

2e - Ninhursag & DNA experiments (Ninhursag, Chief Medical Scientist of the Anunnaki on Earth Colony)

Ki, Aruru (Ninhursag), Foetus Loosener, Urash (Ninhursag),

felt them moving unto her holy lap and contentedly smiled at last:

Ki panted and squeezed until her babies, without any labor or pain,

the holy seeds of An and her own, came tumbling without.

She felt them moving unto her holy lap, and a boundless sense of wonder and joy filled her inside out:

I’ve given birth to the Powers that will shape the Land,

I’ve given birth to the Guardians that will protect the Land!

I’ve given birth, I’ve given birth to those who will ensoul the land!

May this day will be forever praised, may this hour for Eternity remembered, for out of my womb,

out of the holy Mound the Anunnaki, the first gods and goddesses of the land have sprouted!’

An contemplated the Mystery that took place and from the Heights Above

the Skyfather’s Words could be heard in all spaces: Ki, Beloved Body of my Soul, Sister without peer,

Heart’s Desire and Spouse so dear, many Names will be given to you.

But for me you will forever be Ninhursag,

Queen of the Holy Hill, dearest Ninmah, Most Exalted Lady,

Queen and Best Companion along the Heights I trail You will be remembered,

Beloved, as Nintur, Lady Birth Hut, and nothing or no one will quite compare to you!

2c - young Ninhursag in lab (Ninhursag seated on her throne in her ziggurat in Kish)

Urash, Birth Giver, most sacred Aruru (Ninhursag) everlasting praises will be sung from now on to you!

Lady of Mound, where Life sprouts happy and free.

Body of my Soul, sister without peer,

Heart’s Desire and Spouse so dear, mine is the Voice but for all I sing,

Mother of all Life, Lady of my heart, Beloved and Queen!’

This was how the Great Gods and Goddesses of the Land between the Two Rivers came into being.

This was how the Children of Earth and Sky became known in all worlds,

this was how they started to grow in Diversity to reveal the treasures of the Earth and greatness of the Heights.

Most of the children of An and Ninhursag-Ki were beautiful and perfect, the truest expression of a of great love.

Nevertheless, a deep, earlier anguish had left its mark on some.

These babies were the ones scarred in Ki’s womb

by the terrible moment of loss and agony when An was torn from Ki.

They therefore grew in pain and loss, thus bringing ambivalent benedictions without.

Their experience of Primal Oneness and Joy was too short,

for what nurtured them was Ki’s and An’s pain, loneliness and loss.

Within the Mother, they felt Pain and Repression, the Opposite of the Stuff Life is made of.

Dark Guardians this is how we will know them from now on,

the Challengers and Toughest Teachers one may find as one goes along.

Theirs will be the Unbalanced Energies eternally fighting Balance everywhere they go.

‘Children of our pain, Dark Guardians of Existence, the most difficult Teachers one may come across,

this is how I feel you will become,’ declared Ninhursag-Ki to Anu

when she saw the scarred little ones come out crying out and screaming out of her sacred womb.

‘Theirs will be the Uneven Energies, eternally fighting Balance wherever they go.

But I, who gave birth to you out of my womb,

I who was the first together with your father, declare a hope to such hard destiny.

For the Daring, mastery will be granted over Chaos but only for those who will be able to see beyond pain,

suffering and loss to retrieve the light that was the primeval union of mine with Anu, my first love’.

From his post as a Watcher over Mother Earth, faithful to his promise to keep Her safe, and sound,

young Enlil was stunned by what he saw: ugly, misshapen dark little brothers and sisters

leaving the protection of the Birth Mound, crying out loud.

4c - Ninhursag & Enki (Ninhursag, Anu & others in flying disc above, & Enlil)

Disturbed beyond measure, Enlil turned to Ki, also known as Ninhursag,

Exalted Lady and the Skyfather’s Soul Counterpart.

‘Mother, are you alright?

Ninhursag-Ki’s eyes reflected immense sadness: ‘I am terribly sad, but can handle it, Enlil.’

‘Mother, what is going on?

What ails my new brothers and sisters?

Why are they so different?

Are they my real brothers and sisters too?’

Ninhursag-Ki sighed deeply:

‘Yes, Enlil, these are your brothers and sisters too, but let them be and follow their own destinies.

Learn to see beyond appearances, my firstborn, to reach out for the True Essency, learn to reach out

to the Source where yourself came from, the Union of all Opposites, The Holy Complementarity that was lost.

Indirectly, Enlil, it was your fault the suffering of these little ones, when you caused the Separation of Heaven and Earth.

Therefore, I demand you to let the Dark Guardians be.

Theirs will be another Quest, much harder, I’m afraid so’.

5 - Anu above, Enlil, & Enki

(Apkula / winged eagle-headed pilot, Enki, Anu in his sky-disc, Enlil, & another pilot)

A shadow of guilt and regret covered the face of the young Lord Air:

”If I am at the root of all their suffering,

I vow by my Gifts of Mind, Thoughts and Never-ending Inspiration to try and understand them

to heal what needs to be healed, to make whole what was once broken.

Mother, this is such a brave new world, we cannot do it all alone!

I long for the company of my brothers and sisters to ensoul the world, make be and grow!’

Because Words of Creation have been forming in Enlil’s mind,

and they will take shape in each and every little god and goddess that come out of the Duku.

These brother and sisters, gods and goddesses-to-be, like himself are the true offspring of Ki and An.

They will continue the Work of Creation started up by Mother Nammu.

But Enlil is uncertain about the Dark Ones.

His bright, inquisitive Mind cannot accept the Unknown, the Bizarre, and this is what the dark guardians are.

“I still don’t understand what is Chaos or Darkness in its complicated patterns”,

thought endlessly Enlil,”but of order, the power of mind,

the conception of what needs to exist before action, this I am learning to know.

And the Divine Guide to every concept along all Existence it is the Word

born of Ensouled Silence which was the meeting point of Nammu, Ki and Anu.

Not the Spoken Word, but the Revelation born of Silence that is not empty but full of Meanings to Be-Come.

This Divine, Unspoken Word will lead the Way

and its power will be the Silence of Accomplished Deeds to Transform.

2d - Enlil in Nippur (Enlil artifact, seated upon his throne in Nippur)

I, Enlil, vow to follow the Silence that is Full of Meaning, I will live its Truth with the Innermost of my Being,

I will be the Inspiration that will be the Energy of Creation,

I will be the Holy Breath that permeates all that lives, gentle and yet strong to create all worlds.”

Enlil‘s logical, brilliant mind could not yet conceive of the Unknown,

of the Bizarre and Unclear and this is the Essence of all Dark Guardians.

But although he tried and tried, he could never achieve his main goal, to bring back the Dark Guardians into the fold.

The oldest, biggest and fiercest of the Dark Guardians,

Kur, found his way out the farthest he could from the Duku, out of Ki’s involving hug.

“I need to get away,” Kur thought.

“Closeness only brings pain eventually one day.”

Kur looked round and realized he wasn´t quite alone.

There were others, not many, as scarred as himself.

So he turned away from the face of Ninhursag-Ki.

She, the Earth Mother, loved all Her Children.

Kur and the little dark ones were her own and An’s, the children of their loss and sorrow.

The Great Mother felt Kur’s retreat and immediately moved towards the scarred son,

despite the fact that he deliberately tried to avoid her.

Kur, son born of my pain and loss, external differences are but the veil to cover True Essence.

All of you came from me and Anu, and I love you all in equal measure and form,

Perhaps for you, who were wounded in my womb I care more deeply so.

Kur, fruit of the loss for the deepest desire of my Body and Soul, try and do what I am myself doing,

remake yourself and be whole, transform your present into a a future of hope and growth.

Leave pain as sorrow behind, start a brand new time in your life!’

For a brief but intense moment mother and son really linked, but he broke the bond.

‘Don’t leave us’, said Ninhursag‘s eyes, but she already knew that Kur had decided to leave.

‘Mother, this place is alien to me.

And I am the alien in this place‘, cried out Kur, looking beyond the Mound,

beyond the Stony Earth that brought him into being.

He did not see Enlil‘s expression of utter astonishment and dismay.

A bitter cry of rage, anguish and violence came out from within Kur.

I will never fit in here! I don’t want to!

So I’ll leave for other places, here coming no more.

But in case there is anyone as scarred and outcast as me, I say ‘Do come along!’

So Kur did slip over the edge of the world, followed by his dark misshapen siblings.

Long they traveled, underneath caves and mounds of the stony earth

and beyond the deep waters of Nammu the Sea.

finally, over the edge of the Middleworld, at the entrance of the Underworld,

Kur and his dark little brothers and sisters stopped and kept watch, just waiting.

Kur, looking at the ugly little faces raised towards his,

straightened his back and raised his voice so that it could be heard afar:

Father and Mother, I claim the ends of the Earth for my domain and for my own kind.

And let it be known that we will challenge and fight to the very end

whoever dare to venture in our land! And beyond!‘

A dark cheer seconded Kur’s words: We will fight to the very end, and beyond!’

From the safety of the Duku, the Chamber of Creation,

Enlil and Ninhursag, heard Kur’s and his followers’ shout.

Immediately, Enlil, whose powers have grown enormously, now that he was a teenager god,

made a barrier formed the the strongest winds he could create and he projected them all to the land’s end,

where the Middleworld met the still empty Depths Below.

(Air God Enlil, Sky Lord Anu, & Enki in flight)

The voice of the Air god sounded loud and clear in all worlds: ‘By the Strength of the Winds of my Desire,

from this moment on I vow to banish the powers of darkness to the boundaries of the Physical World.

Mine is the duty to protect mother Earth,

mine is the atonement for having separated what was born to be united.

Mine is the duty to re-establish Balance and Order, mine is the Promise this vow to fulfill

wherever I go to ensure the growth and success of what I call now civilization.

I vow to raise the Sword of Truth and the Power of Knowledge and Discernment to protect all worlds!’

It was this way that Life’s Energies were created and manifested,

under the tutelage of the ones who called themselves from then on the Hosts of Heaven and Earth.

But Ninhursag never stopped grieving for the Dark Guardians for many, many years on a roll.

It was one of these times when the Great Mother and Queen was immerse in her thoughts,

looking at the stars, that she saw the Bull of Heaven take Human Form.

Delight so great filled Beloved Earth,

  5m - Enlil, Ninurta, & possibly Nusku

(Adad atop Taurus The Bull)                            (Enlil, son Ninurta atop Taurus, & rival Marduk)

as she realized the Age of Taurus was back in the Skies for brand new time.

‘It is me, Beloved’, said Anu, and Ki did not blink twice and rushed to his arms.

In the minutes that followed, the magic of their sacred mating took hold and it seemed there had

been no separation of Heaven and Earth for millenia long.

‘But how…?’, she asked, to make sure she knew.

Anu gave her a quick squeeze, laughed and replied: ‘I followed your movements through the skies

2b - complete solar system with Nibiru, Pluto was discovered in 1930s1d - Zecharia Sitchin, a real hero

(Mr. Zecharia Sitchin, a pioneer & hero!)

(knowledge of our solar system — impossible for earthlings to know, obvious alien star knowledge)

and saw that it takes 26,000 years for you to go round the solar system and travel along my stars.

3a - Nibiru's main orbit (Nibiru / Planet X)

We may have met, or finally made aware of each other, in the first Age of Taurus in time immemorial,

for there was yet no time at that moment.

But this was the way you called me, this was the form I chose to come back to you for a while.

So by the winds of my Desire I came to you, who are the Body of my Wandering Soul,

dreaming with the reality of your touch.’

She kissed him back passionately.

‘Come, beloved, and see this beautiful, green and brown earth we created together

and whose beings are the multifaceted versions of our offspring.’

Together, they wandered all over the Living Earth to enjoy the Never-ending

Workings of Creation and Wonders of Evolution.

‘Amazing, isn’t it? All there is came from mother Nammu and us two’,

2bb - Ninhursag & lab DNA experiments2b - Ninhursag, Chief Medical Officer

(Ninhursag‘s early failed attempts to develop “modern-man”, replacement workers for the gods)

said Ninhursag to Anu after they had visited the whole earth.

‘From the heights where I was I saw all this unfold, but nothing really compares to being here

and see, feel, hear, smell and touch this jolly world.’

A shadow crossed Ninhursag‘s visage.

‘Not everything that bears our seed is pleasing to the eye… or soul.’

He felt the pain and disappointment in her voice.

‘Are you referring to our children who are the Dark Guardians?’

It was a rhetoric question, because he knew the answer.

‘Yes’, she replied with her heartbreaking sincerity.

He hugged her for a long moment, and whispered:

‘Don’t feel so guilty for what happened to them’ ‘But I wish I had done more!

They left because they wanted to follow their own paths and I… let them go, let them be!’

It was the first time that Ninhursag admitted the full truth,

her frustration and immense sadness towards the Guardians of Darkness.

At the same time, it was a relief to share her doubts with Anu.

Of course she had to: he was her partner and son to her and his offspring!

‘I wish I had done more myself, beloved’, admitted Anu.

‘Nevertheless, when I look at everything that came into being from Mother Nammu and ourselves,

this Physical World full of Wonders and Challenges that reflect our greatness

and yet follow its own designs guided by our signs, I don’t think we did such a bad job.

Even considering the Dark Guardians, those who teach through pain and loss,

but only for those who are capable to see the smile beyond the tears.

Do you know why I am convinced of this truth?’

‘No. Why? ”Because of a Greater Mystery we are all part of,

and which is somehow always ahead, waiting to unfold shaped by Free Will, for nothing is a clear-cut plan,

but a Promise of Wholeness and Holiness on the Go.

Even gods and goddesses, who are the Beams of Light that point out the way to eternity,

are subject to this Mystery, which we cannot fully dominate,

but handle and sometimes interfere, under the right words and biddings.’

Taken by surprise, Ninhursag held her breath.

Anu‘s thoughtful eyes held hers as in the past, with the same intensity and longing,

so present as they had never been apart… he was real and touchable, not pure unreachable Spirit.

And suddenly there was no past, just glorious present.

Ninhursag smiled finally, anticipating the beloved’s answer,

surprised for not being capable to understand what he was making so easy to see.

‘I guess I know what you mean, my love.

What a great Mystery you are talking about, and with it, we can hardly interfere!

How badly I needed this knowledge and knowing, how dumb I was not to know!’

He stopped her with a kiss.

One of the most delightful ways to prevent Ninhursag from thinking when he had other things in mind.

‘What is this great mystery then, Lady of my Heart, Mind, Body and Soul?’

Ninhursag‘s smile was a sight to behold: ‘The name of this Great Mystery is Future,

the cycle and wheel that never ends, bringing return and healing

always in a higher level to accomplish evolution and growth.

But the Mystery lies in the fact that no future can be built without the past and present.

We sometimes cannot interfere that much, as it was with the Dark Guardians, our Children of Darkness.

I wish I had know all this before, not to have grieved so much!’

Anu kissed Ninhursag deeply and completed her thoughts: “Whenever I thought of the future,

long and not so long ago, I never lost faith and hope to hold you close in my arms again.

Mine was the desire to see come true the Dream that brought me today to you.

The Future will always bring Brightness and Hope, but Brightness and Hope will only happen

for those who will keep the flame alive to make their dreams real in all worlds.

It is the present that holds the key to all destinies, and when one works with passion, integrity and daring,

reshaping goals as the Path unfolds, the Triumph will come to the Spirit and Matter, the coming together of the Soul.

Ninlil’s Descent

(gods in blue)

It was before dawn in Nippur (Enlil‘s city), a day after her arrival in that great city,

2c - Nippur  (ruins of Enlil‘s temple residence in Nippur)

when Ninlil saw her Moon Blood come for the first time.

She looked at her wet fingers with a mix of surprise, pride and shyness.

She was a woman now.

Her womb could conceive, as much as her brains and hands could create.

She was also ready to find her mate, wasn’t she?

Immediately, Ningal (Nannar‘s spouse, Ninlil‘s sister) jumped off the bed to tell her mom,

2b - Enlil, spouse Haia, Nisaba, & Ninlil

(Enlil with plow, Haia-god of grain warehouses, Nisaba-grain goddess, Ninlil, & unidentified)

the Barley Goddess Numbarshegunu (Nisaba), the news.

Father Haia, the Lord of Stores, was out in the fertile fields around Nippur,

and would be told of the auspicious events when back to the Kiur, the temple Enlil,

Nippur´s city god and lord Air (Enlil), had provided for Ninlil and family in his fast-growing-city.

They had come invited by Lord Enlil, who was building the city for his people (giant aliens).

(Nisaba, Master Scribe of the gods, keeper of harvest records, Goddess of Grains)

‘I knew this day would come!’

Numbarshegunu (Nisaba) exclaimed overjoyed, hugging Ninlil affectionately.

‘May you be proud of your womanhood, may bring happiness as much as you receive,

may your body know and give pleasure in all worlds you dare to fare!

May you conceive of your womb, may you create of your own hands, mind, heart and soul!

Now, we should search for a worthy partner for you,

Fresh as the morning the Anunnaki, the Great Gods, came out of the Duku, the Mound of Creation,

you deserve only the best young man we can find!’

Ninlil colored softly: ‘Who will he be, Mother?’

‘We’ll see… and you will know for sure when he turns up!

Hurry, now, and wash yourself as you’ve always done so far.

Down the canal to bless the waters with the power of your first blood

and dance for the sheer joy of being young, woman and goddess!

Just be very careful where you thread upon, for I’ve heard young Enlil,

(Anu & Enlil traversing the skies over Sumer in their sky-disc)

Lord Air, comes often to the canal and the riverbank to kiss the fertile lands

with the power of his breath that makes everything grow.

Indeed, Enlil could be the best choice for you, dearest,

but he should ask your hand first to me and your father Haia.

‘Mother, if he is so special, tell me more about young Enlil‘.

(Royal Prince Enlil, son & heir to King Anu, King Anu‘s Earth Colony Commander)

Enlil is Lord Wind, the Master of Air and the Strongest Winds.

He is the First Born of An the Sky and Ki (Antu, Anu‘s official spouse) the Earth, the First Breath of the Universe.

It is in the courtyard of his temple, the E-kur, that the Assembly of the Anunnaki, the Great Gods,

gather to judge the cases that affect the destiny of the land,

it is by his will that the scepter of kingship is conferred to the fair and strong kings to rule over the earth.

Enlil also laid plans to bring forth seeds, plants, trees and abundance to the earth.

7d - Earthlings Learn to Farm(Enlil turns over the burdens of hard labor to the modified modern earthlings)

His was the Inspiration to fashion the pickaxe and the hoe

so that humankind could work the ground (as replacement workers for the gods).

7a - when the gods did the work before man

(ancient times – when the giant alien Anunnaki gods did the work of colonizing planet Earth)

His is the Power of Spring to create life,

His are the Storms to Destroy what Must Be No More.

He is also about your age, my sweet, and hasn’t found the Right Lady to release his seed as yet.

I hope she is going to be you, but don’t make things easy for him’.

‘Mother, if Enlil is such a great lord, how will he notice me?’

‘Who wouldn’t notice you, dearest?’ countered Numbarshegunu softly.

She gave to Ninlil the exquisite mirror which rested on her bedside table.

‘Look at yourself in the mirror, Ninlil, what do you see?

No, don’t answer me now. Think of that image and rejoice.

You are yourself, unique and very special.

As we all are, but many times just don’t realize.

And don’t forget the most important…’

‘Which is?’

‘You are my daughter! What else did you expect me to say?

So on your way, young lady, to do your first duty as a woman in full power of her womanhood!

Go bless the waters and the fields!’

Ninlil gained the streets of Nippur, still empty at such an early time.

2d - Nippur - Enlil's Temple, the Ekur (city of Nippur with Enlil‘s mud-brick mountain residence far above)

As she crossed the city gates, a light breeze seemed to follow her out of nowhere,

playing with her unbound hair and the rim of her morning dress.

Ninlil turned her face towards it with delight.

She was following the Breeze or the Breeze was following her?

She wouldn’t say. She moved to the move of it in a spontaneous choreography.

The world was full of springtime scents and the slightly morning chill

was as stimulating as the Dance she was engaged in with the Wind.

Suddenly she could not feel the Breeze anymore.

Instead, she was dancing with a young man.

Surprise made her stop and examine him openly.

1ae - Enlil, Babylonian  (Enlil, King Anu‘s son & Heir, Earth Colony Commander)

He was tall, slight of built and with light-colored eyes (blue) that gleamed in the dim light of the coming dawn.

He seemed to carry no color and yet be the opposite of darkness.

He was Force, Weightless Energy and Sheer Might.

Ninlil stood just apparently very still.

In actual fact, a storm was roaring deep inside her Self.

Awareness of him, of her own womanhood in every cell of her body, in the heartbeat of her chest.

Was this desire?

She wanted him close, but did not know how, and yet a strange shyness commanded her to be cautious.

(Enlil, “his decisions are final“, Earth Colony Commander & King Anu‘s heir)

Who was he? Sooner or later she would find out.

When she could gather her wits enough to break their mutual appraisal.

But it was him who broke the silence first.

‘Who are you? I haven’t met you yet and I know all who live in my city’.

“My city?” So she had bumped into Lord Enlil himself.

As befitting to her and his station, she bowed graciously and introduced herself.

‘I lend you graces, my Lord. My name is Ninlil, a newcomer to your domains.

3 - Inanna, unknowns, & Nisaba

(Inanna & semi-divine,      Ninlil,       her parents Haia      & Nisaba / Numbarshegunu)

I am the daughter of Haia, Lord of the Stores and Numbarshegunu, the Goddess of Barley.

We came in reply to your call to help you build this great city

and to ensure with our work that the land bear fruits for the forthcoming harvest..

How may I better serve you, Great One?’

‘I would like very much to taste your lips, my lady!

Will you give me a kiss, Ninlil?

As a Breeze I touched your lips, I played with your pretty dress.

As a man I long to taste your mouth, your tongue and feel the sweetness of your body.

Come to my arms, Ninlil, surrender to delights we both could share!’

Taken by surprise by Enlil‘s straightforwardness, Ninlil retreated one step.

As much as she had enjoyed playing with the Impetuous Breeze, was it wise to accept the young lord’s proposition?

She was a Maiden, so little she knew of the Sacred Art of giving and receiving pleasure.

Would she know how to please him?

She had never kissed anyone in the mouth, she had never touched a man’s body in a sexual act.

Caution and shyness won over curiosity and desire.

‘You are too great for me, my lord. I am too young.

I have never known a man.

My vagina is too narrow, my mouth still untutored.

Choose another one!’

She said these words and fled to the welcoming waters of the canal which led to the river.

She needed to be on her own to assess her own feelings.

Because part of her wanted to come back to Enlil, but the other half commanded her to wait.

What if she lost him? She also wanted to know Enlil‘s reaction.

Was he as frustrated and confused as she was?

Ninlil dived and swam as silently as she could to the high reeds by the river bank.

From that advantage point, she could observe Enlil‘s next move without being noticed.

He seemed to have been struck by a tornado, stunned and very, very angry.

5jj - Ninlil, Enlil, & Nusku

     (Ninlil                       Enlil                                            Nusku)

‘Wait! Come back over here now! Why are you running away?

Nusku (Enlil‘s minister)! Where in the Skyfather‘s name are you hiding?’

‘So he is angry! With me or himself… or both?’ considered Ninlil from the safety of the high reeds.

Because she did feel drawn to him, the greatest of the younger generation of the Anunnaki, the Great Gods.

1f - gods in procession (Anu‘s royal descendants on Earth)

She knew other young men, but no other had made her head spin,

her blood race like a chariot drawn by lions, her insides melt like fresh butter.

For the first time she knew what desire was like.

But she needed time to consider her feelings and thoughts before coming to him.

Because she definitely would.

With increasing wonder Ninlil understood her mother’s wise words of early morning.

She knew Enlil was her heart’s desire.

He was indeed Force, Enthusiasm, Might and Impetuousness.

She would come to him… when she was good and ready.

In reply to Enlil‘s call, a man slightly older came.

Nusku, Enlil‘s sukkal, his closest helper in the temple, best friend, adviser and counselor.

5j - Enlil, Nusku, Ninurta, & Bau

(Enlil with plow, Nusku, Ninurta with mixed-DNA worker creation, & Bau seated with her guard dog)

‘Coming my lord! What’s upsetting you?

You told me to keep out of sight!’

‘It’s a girl, damn her! Ninlil is her name.

She dared to give me the slip.

But I’ll come after her! Quick,

Nusku, find me a raft so that I can chase her in the canal.

Never before was I refused anything.

I’ll have her, no matter what!

‘Your wish is my command, my lord.

I’ll go to the quay and see what I can find’.

Enlil‘s anger was so funny!

Ninlil had a hard time not to giggle.

So she had been the first he had made such a proposal!

Like herself, he lacked experience in the Sacred Matters of the Flesh.

And he couldn’t conceive to have been refused!

Alarm bells only started ringing when she saw Nusku‘s return.

He had grabbed the first raft that came to hand, a bundle of reeds lashed together.

Enlil hardly waited for the nose of the raft to get closer,

and leaped across the waters with a bound that almost swamped the fragile vessel.

Swiftly he settled his balance and urged Nusku to punt on.

‘She can’t stay underwater long. I must have her!

What woman have I offered myself before her? None!’

‘You shall have her, my lord. Trust me’.

5 - Enki lived in the abzu marshes of Eridu  (Enki & other gods in the high reed marshes of the Persian Gulf)

Ninlil slid among the high reeds, but the raft was quickly approaching.

She kept very quiet. Her chances to escape, though, were scarce.

Against Enlil‘s and Nusku‘s combined strengths and the raft, she could only hope they gave up the pursuit.

‘There, my lord, in between the reeds!’

She started swimming for her life, but Enlil was faster.

In a swift move he lifted her off the river by the waist and laid her on the raft, standing on top of her.

Ninlil struggled in vain. He was much stronger.

Soon his mouth was in hers, his hands everywhere along her body, tearing her morning dress.

Then his member entered her vagina, breaking the sensitive skin that kept her maidenhood intact.

Ninlil released a shout of pain.

Then Enlil was inside her and moving to a rhythm of clouds pushed by early morning winds.

She twisted her thighs trying to escape, but the discomfort gave way to an overwhelming sensation

that obliterated any rational thought as Enlil‘s seed was spilled into her.

The feeling was so intense that Enlil stopped moving, stunned, to look into her face.

‘I really made it! My seed is inside you! Ninlil, o Lady!’

Ninlil could feel the wonder in Enlil‘s words.

But her anger was greater.

Her body ached, thighs were sore and bloodier, her dreams of a tender, sweet lover marred forever.

This was the denial of her dreams of love and happily ever after.

She pushed Enlil away and dived into the waters.

She needed a physical barrier and cleansing before anything.

Ninlil, my Lady, wait!’

She heard Enlil‘s shout, and were she not beyond herself with anger and grief,

she would have noticed the different tone he was addressing to her now.

On the shore, she straightened her back with great dignity, standing proudly on the ground.

Her clothes were wet, bloodied and torn, her lips bruised and reeds were tangled in her long hair.

Tears she did not want to hide streamed down her face.

Her last words would be for Enlil before she left for Nippur,

3a - Enlil's home in Nippur

(E-kur in Nippur, Enlil‘s mud-brick built mountain / residence, top added in 1900 by American archaeologists)

for the safety of the Kiur, her parent’s place in the city.

She turned to the raft, where Enlil stood, naked and still under the effect of last events.

Ninlil pronounced the Words of Fate addressed to Enlil, her voice deep with power, anger and pain:

(Anunnaki King An / Anu in his sky-disc, father in heaven to his offspring running things on Earth Colony)

‘Never before was a daughter of An (Anu), a Maiden of the Holy House so ill-treated by one of the Anunnaki.

The waters of Mother Nammu (Enki‘s mother), the Source of Life, were defiled by one of her own.

May you stand trial, Enlil, for what you did to me.

May you pay a very dear price for the brightness of your seed!’

3a - Anu in flight (Skyfather Anu hovering above in his sky-disc)

From the Heights Above, An, the All-Powerful (King Anu) Skyfather,

King of All Gods, Beloved of Ki (Ninhursag, sometimes Antu), the Earth Mother,

saw Ninlil‘s bitter tears and the unspeakable behavior of Enlil, his first-born.

He immediately summoned the Assembly of the Gods,

the Anunnaki, the highest authority in the Mesopotamian universe who met,

5a - Nippur Map 5b - Nippur Map (ancient map of Enlil‘s patron city Nippur)

when occasion arose, in the forecourt of Enlil‘s own temple in Nippur

to judge wrongdoers and elect the worthy to rule the land.

All gods were bound by oath to abide by the decisions of the Assembly.

Despite the fact that the execution of the assembly‘s decisions

normally were overseen by Enlil, this time he would stand on the defendant’s corner.

No one, not even the first born of the Skyfather (Anu) and Mother Earth (Antu), was above the Law.

In the Depths Below, the Queen of the Underworld,

Ereshkigal, saw Enlil‘s wrongdoing and heard the lament of the Maiden:

4d - Ninlil followed Enlil to Ereshkigal's Underworld  (Ereshkigal, Queen of the Under World)

the Lady of the Great Below heeded the Maiden’s words.

She knew a door had been opened for Justice,

Growth and Regeneration in the Underworld if only Enlil submitted to the Laws of the Land of No Return.

6g - Ninmah - Ninhursag  (giant alien goddess Ninhursag, Chief Medical Science Officer)

In Nippur, Ki, Mother Earth, also known as Urash, Ninmah, and Ninhursag

felt strongly that Enlil should suffer the hardest of all punishments for his conduct.

Never before had the Anunnaki taken to trial one of their own.

Shocked and circumspect, they gathered, and were forty-nine, not the usual fifty in number,

because Enlil was counted out for the first time.

In the lower platform sat 46 judges, in the higher was An, who presided all judgments,

Copper and gold, H: 17,5 cm AO 2823 (Anu, Anus children Ninhursag & son Enki)

Father, Mother (Antu) and (½) Brother to Enlil they were,

but also the Guardians of the Attributes of Civilization, Law and Order.

The fourth high seat was empty.

It belonged to Enlil, the defendant.

Red-eyed Ninlil, sided by the healer goddess Gula (Bau) sat quiet and dignified on the right.

1b - Bau, Gula - Ninurta's spouse, Anu's daughter  (Bau, Enlil‘s 1/2 sister, & his daughter-in-law as spouse to his son Ninurta seen here with long beard)

On the left and opposite to her was Enlil, whose discomfort was evident for all to see.

An opened the session: ‘ Two grave crimes were committed by one of the great gods.

First, a Maiden, a daughter of the Holy House suffered the most unspeakable offense

that could have ever been inflicted upon her.

Secondly, and related to the first offense, the sacredness of the sexual act,

Life-Force and Energy that Moves Creation and perpetuates all lines through the Times was completely neglected.

My heart bleeds for the accused, my (Antu’s) first-born Enlil, but it bleeds even more for my daughter Ninlil.

The Assembly was called upon to decide the punishment for the wrongdoer.

For no one, not even the gods, are above the Law!

Let’s hear the accuser’s defense for his act.’

Enlil bowed low to his father and the Assembly, and spoke, his voice deep and constrained:

‘Before this very day never had I felt such a strong desire for a Maiden.

Before this very day never had I felt so drawn to a lady of the Holy House.

Before this very day never had I known passion as I did and still do for Ninlil‘.

‘Is that all you have to say to the Assembly?

Is your defense based on just desire and passion?’, asked Ki (Enlil‘s ½ sister Ninhursag) to Enlil, her voice sharp as a razor.

‘Yes’, replied Enlil, clearly in discomfort.

Ninhursag-Ki’s anger was so evident that she dismissed Enlil with a wave or her mighty hand.

She turned then to the Assembly:

‘It is right to feel desire and expected that a young god feels drawn to a Maiden of the Holy House.

Above all, it is expected that they come together at the right time and season in the Sacred Marriage rite.

This is the way the Sacredness of Life is celebrated among us,

from Mother Nammu (Enki‘s & Ninhursag‘s mother) the Sea who in an act of selfless

Self-Love engendered the Skyfather (Anu) who the Assembly presides

and myself as the Cosmic Mountain Ki (Ninhursag).

It is understandable impetuousness and confusion in dealing with such matters of the flesh,

for the young need time to understand that matter, spirit,

feeling and mind are but Representations of the Mystery of Creation.

Indeed, we all stem from and are one with the Source, and we the Great Gods are but Reflections of the One.

(Enlil & Ninlil on ancient wall)

Ninlil and Enlil are both very young.

But like a stallion waits for the right time to court the mare,

like a lion is drawn to the lioness, so it is with young god and goddess.

Only when are ready and fully aware of the Mystery they will re-enact in the Sacred Marriage Bed.

So has it always been. So will it always be!

This is the law, and anything that violates this precept hurts the Spirit,

the Inner Fabric upon which our civilization was formed.

The law shall be preserved!’

‘The law shall be preserved!’ repeated in agreement the Assembly.

‘The accused has spoken,’ said Ki, then turning to Ninlil. ‘Let’s hear the victim.

Daughter, would you like to address to the Assembly?’

Ninlil stood up and graciously bowed to the judges.

She was a sight to behold, young, eyes swollen with tears,

yet showing profound dignity as befitted to an Anunnaki princess:

‘Nothing can undo what was done to me.

For above all, now I bear Enlil‘s first seed.

A child of light is growing inside my womb, a little one conceived out of immature desire on both sides.

I claim my child as Enlil‘s first born-to-be (Ninurta is Enlil‘s 1st born son, with Ninhursag ).

To the Assembly gathered here I demand the punishment of my rapist

so that never again a daughter or son suffer the hideous act of violence I was subjected to.

As for me, to the Great Gods my fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters here today,

I the Maiden ask: can love grow out of such pain to ensoul my life’s further journey?’

Ninlil!’, was Enlil‘s strangled moan in the profound silence that followed Ninlil‘s statement.

It was Enki, lord of Wisdom, Magic and of the Sweet Waters,

son of An the Sky and Nammu the Sea, (Enki is ½ older) brother to Enlil, who answered thoughtfully after some time:

‘Sorrow and pain are the measures of the happiness and laughter that could be.

Healing can always occur, if one is ready to see truth and wholeness beyond the hardest trials.’

‘Is it too late for me to take Ninlil as my wife?’ interrupted Enlil, turning to the Assembly.

He turned then to Ninlil. He knelt graciously in front of her.

‘Will you accept me as your true husband, Ninlil?

(Goddess of Grains Nisaba, Enlil, Ninlil, & semi-divine king)

Nothing can undo what was done, and I deserve the hardest punishment for my act,

but I am also honor-bound to set balances right for what I did to you, my Lady, and my seed.

I’ll do more than marrying you, Ninlil, because let it be known that from now on I’ll share my power with you,

Lady Air (Ninlil), so that you can become my true Soul-Counterpart everywhere we dare to fare’.

Another deep silence followed Enlil‘s words.

4 - Ninlil, Enlil's spouse  (Ninlil, equal spouse to Earth Colony Commander Enlil)

Ninlil, from her seat, felt her heart melt, but reason commanded her not to express her feelings openly.

Enlil had accepted her as his equal, her baby was already acknowledged as Enlil‘s and hers firstborn-to-be.

But the fact remained that the young lord Air (Enlil) had claimed her through violence,

and no matter who he was, he should undergo punishment as an example for the old and young of the land.

Only Enki smiled.

Wisdom had finally started to find a tiny space in Enlil‘s heart, giving substance to Lord Air.

The Anunnaki stirred indecisively.

But An‘s (Anu‘s) voice was deep and firm: ‘The possibility of marriage is only a first act to set balances right.

But it does not absolve the culprit.

Enlil‘s impiety struck at roots far deeper than that.

Enlil made himself a Guardian of the Earth, to guard,

love and protect first his mother and all women, who are garments of my Beloved Ki.

Enlil himself forbade violence all over the land, all that lies in the South, North, West and East.

He kept in the wilderness the quarreling beasts.

But now he has brought violence in.

He broke the sacred trust we gave him.

All I say is that Sky (Anu) rejects you now’.

‘The Earth rejects you now’, said Ki.

‘So be it! The Assembly rejects you now!’ echoed the judges.

‘Where should I then go?’, asked stunned Enlil.

Enki left out a deep sigh:

‘Until you set balances right, until you travel unknown depths, you cannot go back to us.

There is only one place you are bound to go.

To the Land of No Return, the Underworld‘.

‘So be it!’ agreed the Assembly.

‘But I don’t know the way to the Underworld‘, said Enlil, still trying to avoid his fate.

4 - door to Ereshkigal's Underworld  (door to the Underworld / Netherworld / Lower World / Hades / Bowels of Hell)

‘There is a door to the Underworld in every soul to set balances right and change.

The moment you forced yourself unto the young Lady you found that door.

Let’s see whether you can get in and pay the price for your return.

Now you are the doorkeeper of the Great Below‘, said Enki.

Enlil‘s eyes traveled around the whole assembly, and focused on Ninlil‘s.

Both dived into each others’ depths for the first time, totally vulnerable.

         Then he withdrew contact.

He was Enlil, the Guardian of the Earth.

He should conquer back the Right he had lost.

Enki raised from his seat and so did Enlil.

Brothers looked into each others’ eyes.

5 - Anu above, Enlil, & Enki

(Apkulla / pilot, Enki, father Anu above in his sky-disc / flying saucer, Enlil, Apkulla / pilot, the “Tree of Life“)

Enki bowed slightly to the older (younger) brother, Enlil nodded silently.

The unspoken dialogue meant trust on both sides.

              (Enki, sky-disc, & Enlil)

Enki would deputize for Enlil in his absence from the Heights Above.

At the same time, Enlil felt his admiration for his younger (½ brother Enki) brother grow to a much deeper level.

         Enki knew better.

He had gone to the Depths Below and returned.

So would Enlil.

With this last thought, Enlil bowed to the assembly, to Ninlil.

Then he stepped forwards with a silent

Intent to disappear from the Assembly, Nippur and the Worlds Above.

5a - Inanna in Underworld, Dumuzi looks on (Ninlil followed Enlil into the Underworld)

He found the threshold to the Underworld.

Ninlil was the first to recover from the initial shock of Enlil‘s vanishing.

She raised from her seat, went to the spot where Lord Air (Enlil) had stood until moments ago.

She then turned to Enki. She needed to know and act.

‘Lord Enki,’ she asked, ‘is my lord gone?’

The Lord of Wisdom, Magic and Sweet Waters looked at her with interest.

So young but strong.

And perhaps a fool too.

But the Journeys to the Underworld, the Inner Realms of Wisdom

Learnt through Experience also belong to the Holy Fools.

‘Yes, Ninlil, he is gone.

We hope it is for the time being, until he learns a deep lesson,

until he pays the price for what he did to you and all Creation’,

Enki answered softly, bowing to her. ‘Enlil has just crossed the threshold to the Underworld.’

Ninlil kept silence for a little while, as if gathering all her strength to do what she should.

3a - Inanna & Dumuzi in the Underworld (Ninlil & Enlil enter into the Under World, uncontested domain of Ereshkigal)

‘I’ll follow my lord to the bowels of the earth’, she said out loud.

‘And beyond if need be”, she thought to herself.

As these words came out, she too vanished from the assembly.

Surprised, but not afraid anymore, Ninlil saw herself at the very city gate she had crossed twice this very morning.

A tunnel entrance lied a few yards away.

In she went through the brick-built walls downwards for a long time.

Down, always downwards, deeper and deeper below Ninlil went.

When she was about to ask whether she had done right to follow the sudden impulse of her heart’s desire,

she discovered a massive wooden door. A gate!

But when she stretched her hand to pull the heavy iron handle up, a hand prevented her to do so.

A tall, imposing figure, eyes light of color as the first breeze of the day met hers

‘Go back, my lady. The door to the Underworld is closed to you’.

So Ninlil had found the gate to the Depths Below and the doorkeeper.

She assessed both silently.

Doorkeeper and Gate were oddly similar.

Both loomed in front of her, both were a barrier she had to cross, no matter what if she wanted to rescue Enlil.

For a moment, she felt immense sorrow, for there was no way back for her until she found her heart’s desire.

Heart’s desire? With an increasing sense of wonder, she dared to admit the truth: how important Enlil had become to her.

To the extent that she would risk her life for him, if it meant they could have a chance together in the future…

whenever it was meant to be!

Gone was the girl afraid of yielding to her sexuality, yet bold enough to desire the greatest of the younger gods.

In her place there was now the hopeful young woman who trusted her power to get her reluctant, stubborn Beloved back.

For herself and their child.

She would be sustenance and balance out Enlil‘s Impetuousness.

Ninlil felt a deep bond to Enlil, his seed growing steady like a beacon of light in her mind, body and soul.

Now she had to gain her way in.

She summoned her Will and endowed it with the power of the Winds of the Four Quarters to face the doorkeeper.

‘I have a question for you, Keeper of the Gates.

Did you see my Lord Enlil come this way?’

The eyes of the gatekeeper gleamed: ‘ This way is barred to you.

My Lord Enlil commanded me to stay silent’.

Ninlil smiled: ‘ So I may not be that far behind him.

You must let me in. I am Enlil‘s Lady. Open the gate for me’.

‘Lord Enlil commanded me not to allow you to follow him.

It is too risky.

But I did dry the tears on my Lord’s face.

I did try to soothe his heart.

If you are Ninlil, his lady, let me feel your cheek, let me touch you and swear my loyalty on them to Enlil‘.

Ninlil willed herself to remain calm.

She could feel the depth of emotion that radiated from the gatekeeper.

As if he had a tornado inside.

Or were a tornado himself.

‘The seed of your lord grows within me.

If Enlil is your Master, then I am your Lady.

By my power, by the Beloved of mine you serve, let me in. Now’.

‘O Lady, may my royal seed go to heaven, may my royal seed go to the underworld.

Please, my lady, lay with me.

Let not the seed of the Bright One descend to the Underworld.

Let my seed take his place’.

Ninlil looked sternly at the gatekeeper: ‘Why are you doing this, gatekeeper?

Why are you giving your seed to replace my lord’s?

And why would I accept such high ransom?’

She could feel the shyness and reluctance of the gatekeeper to open up to her.

But she was patient.

Somehow she had seen through the disguise who he actually was.

Enlil, stop pretending and let me in so that we can descend together.

Why the disguise?

Have the Winds of Change started to blow within your heart?

Show me who you are, Enlil.

It’s me, Ninlil, your Soul-Counterpart.”

‘Lady, I offer my seed to replace my lord’s out of love and sorrow for the offense my lord committed in the Worlds Above.

He should have known better before using his force and hurt the one who is now closest to his very heart.

I am pledged to serve Enlil and ransom him with my very life.

The deep sorrow I feel for the lord is now rooted within my Self like a Tree that Bears Fruits in the Lowest Depths.

So lay with me, lady of my lord’s heart, give me your embrace and touch to quench my lonely night.

And I’ll let you go in, for you’ll have this way given consolation to my Wandering Soul.’

Ninlil reached out for the gatekeeper (Enlil in disguise) and kissed him in the mouth.

“Beloved, why?” her heart asked, but the words were not uttered, as she reached out for him.

Arms as strong as gale, light as air drew her into the lodge placed by the gate.

She fixed her eyes into his and they let themselves be carried away by the hurricane of touch and thrust.

It was much better this time for he had asked her out of his very need.

Of her, although he might not be ready to admit it.

When would he be?

As they laid in a close embrace in the aftermath, he whispered into her hair.

‘I need to go. Turn back, Ninlil, don’t cross the threshold to the Below‘.

‘Have you crossed it?’ she asked instead, raising her head to meet his light sky-blue eyes.

2b - Enlil who decrees man's fate (Enlil, Earth Colony Commander under his father King Anu)

The Gatekeeper’s eyes reflected such deep sadness, the arms around Ninlil‘s tensed,

but the Gatekeeper’s voiced sounded strong and committed.

To what? ‘Yes. I had to. And now I need to go on’.

Ninlil touched with a tender wave of her hand the gatekeeper’s face:

‘This seed of yours that grows within me now, I’ll call him Nergal-Meslamtaea

inergal001p1  (Nergal, sometimes Enlil‘s son, sometimes Enki‘s son, Ereshkigal‘s spouse)

and his will be the knowledge of the hard mysteries of Conflict,

Wounding and Diseases so that humanity and the gods know about Peace, Healing and Wholeness in all levels.’

She put his hand on her belly, and felt it tremble with emotion

like a leaf touched by the lightest summer breeze.

He kept silent, but she knew he had been deeply affected, as affected as herself had been by the mating they had shared.

‘But I also need to be on my way,’ Ninlil continued, her voice acquiring a decisive tone.

‘Release me, Gatekeeper. I’ve paid your price.

As Enlil is your master, I am your lady.

I am not asking your leave. I will get in. Now.’

‘So be it’, the Gatekeeper replied.

A kiss on her mouth as soft and moist as breeze touched by dewfall was his farewell.

Within Ninlil another seed had been planted, rooted in her womb.

She touched her belly and smiled with a mix of awe and wonder.

And again was she on her own, looking into the Darkness that led to the Realms Beyond.

It took a few minutes for Ninlil to get used to the new environs.

She had crossed the gate, she had actually made it!

So she was on the other side, in the Land of No Return.

Strangely enough, she was not afraid, even though she didn’t know which way to go.

There was anticipation seasoned with caution within her.

No, definitely she was not afraid.

She had a purpose, she would find Enlil and bring him back to the Worlds Above.

2a - Ereshkigal, Nannar's Daughter (Ereshkigal seated upon her throne, Queen of the Under World)

Ereshkigal (Nannar‘s daughter, Nergal‘s spouse), the Queen of the Underworld,

had released Lord Enki once, so the Dark Lady’s graces could be obtained with the right approach.

She would find a way to win Ereshkigal‘s mercy.

The pressing question was where to go next.

Inspiration made Ninlil close her eyes.

This was the Inner Realm of Essence.

Perhaps she should look for clues her Inner World, the place she drew her strength from to be and act in all worlds.

Perhaps within the depths of her very Self she would find the right direction.

After some seconds or minutes (she wouldn’t say), a faint sound of water singing in the darkness could be heard.

She followed the sound with her eyes closed first, just trusting her Inner Knowing.

Ninlil only opened her eyes when she felt the ground become slightly moist.

To her delight, she saw a spring coming off the ground and then stretching itself downwards in a line.

A river! Confidence started to build inside Ninlil again.

Rivers and waters were sacred.

Since time immemorial the sick were taken to the waters to be healed.

At the water’s edge reeds grow,

shells are found and the land can be plowed to bring food for the people.

With reverence, Ninlil knelt and cupped her hands to gather water from the Underworld river.

She didn’t drink from it though, but sent a healing thought to Enlil as the drops came off her hands to the source back again.

“I’ll follow the course of the river and see what lies around the river bank.

There may be a bridge or a crossing point somewhere.

I just need to be persistent and walk with great care.

I’ll find a way cross the cataract …wherever it is!” reasoned Ninlil.

On she walked downwards.

Soon the droplets of water that had slipped beside her feet

like accompanying snakes were hurrying on to dive into dashing waters.

Grown in width and depth, the river started roaring in her ears, yet no bridge or crossing point could be seen.

           (Enlil, & spouse Ninlil)

Concern gripped Ninlil‘s heart.

Had her Descent finished without accomplishing her goal?

She might, for in front of her a majestic, a cataract opened its hungry mouth plunging into bottomless depths.

“No, I won’t give up. I’ve gone too far now to stop”, she reasoned with her fear.

“I fear the failure of not being able to rescue Enlil and myself.

Is my fear like a devouring river, consuming my soul, my wits, my body and my heart?

It can’t be. Or perhaps it can. But there is power where there is fear.

And where our deepest fears are, there is also the source of healing,

if one keeps one’s wits steady enough to see through the darkest hours.

If Enlil came this way, I’ll know.

I just need to gather my strength and be like a steady wind circling the world round.

Somewhere, somehow a passageway will be found’.

A throaty voice called from behind:

‘Go back, lady. You may not cross the Devouring River’.

Ninlil started and turned round.

In the darkness, she couldn’t discern his features.

Only eyes light of color gleamed.

She pulled herself together.

“Tell me first, has my Lord Enlil come this way?’

‘My Lord Enlil commanded me to be silent’.

‘So have you answered me. Enlil came this way.

(Ninlil on shore, Enlil & Nuska)

How did he cross the river?’

‘He wept for grief in my arms, I touched him

and carried my Lord over the cataract and the stepping stones of the Underworld‘.

‘What you have done for him, you must do for me.

I am Ninlil, Lord Enlil‘s Queen’.

‘If you are Ninlil, Lord Enlil‘s Queen, let me touch your face, let me touch your body and swear my loyalty on it to Enlil‘.

His hand reached out for her face.

It was a gesture of great tenderness, and it felt like the first touch of winter winds, bringing frost to make the earth rest.

Where had she heard a similar talk before?

From the gatekeeper. Understanding started dawning on her, but if Enlil liked hide and seek games, she would play along.

At least for the time being.

‘The seed of your lord grows within me.

By my power, by Enlil you serve, carry me over the river. Now’.

‘O Lady, let my royal seed go to heaven, let my royal seed go to the Underworld.

Let my seed plunge lone into the Great Devouring River as a gift to Queen Ereshkigal.

Lie with me as well!’

‘Why are you doing this, Guardian of the Devouring River?

Why are you giving your seed to replace my lord’s?

And why would I accept such offer?’

Ninlil was incisive with the Guardian, although her heart asked silently why Enlil was doing this to her,

why couldn’t he tell her that he was the Guardian of the Devouring River in disguise?

‘I offer my seed to replace my lord’s out of love and my will to heal his troubled heart,

as well as to heal the wounds he inflicted to you, my Lady, by his unspeakable behavior.

I am pledged to serve Enlil and ransom him with my very life.

I’ve known my lord all my life, but only by carrying him over the devouring river

I’ve come face to face with mysteries unknown to me so far.

By facing the violence of the rushing waters, I faced the side of my lord that is like a storm, a restless, destructive force.

By plunging into the rushing waters I then learnt of the responsibility to heal inflicted violence and wounds,

to resurface with the wisdom of dried tears.

It is as if I had become a Water-Knower.

Lay with me, lady Air, and share a night of passion by the cataract.

I need your care to guide me through this lonely night’.

‘Will you carry me afterwords (sp), as you did… to Enlil?’

‘Yes’. Ninlil reached out for the Guardian of the Devouring River and kissed him in the mouth.

On the hard wet rock their bodies met, their lovemaking wild and passionate.

And as they lay in a close embrace, Ninlil kissed the Stranger and whispered:

This seed of yours, I’ll call him Ninazu (sometimes Ninlil‘s son, sometimes Ereshkigal‘s son), the Water-Knower,

Lord of the Depths that Heal.

His will be the knowledge to wound too, because healing and wounding are two sides of the same coin.

Now, lord of the Devouring River, fulfill your part of our contract.

Take me to the other side of the Devouring River’.

‘It is too dangerous, my lady’ .

‘Can Enlil be ransomed otherwise?’

‘No’. ‘I’ve paid your fee. Carry me’. So did he.

Ninlil wrapped her arms around his neck and, breath caught, felt the Guardian take a mighty leap over the cataract.

The world roared and thundered as he stepped on the stones which led to the opposite side of river bank.

Then, the deluge slackened as she was carefully lowered on a rock, and the Guardian was gone.

He had parted on a gust before she dared move.

“Who follows whom, Beloved?” asked Ninlil to the darkness.

No reply came. Nor had she expected one.

Ninlil massaged sore, tense muscles vigorously.

Her clothes were soaked wet, so she took them off and spread them on dry grassland.

In the distance she heard the falls bellowing behind.

No sound came from ahead, from the caves she could hardly discern in the dim light of the Great Below.

Deeper, deeper still she should go.

She hugged her knees and rested her head on them, sighing.

So much had happened since she had met Enlil, so much since the Descent had started!

And somehow by some strange and wondrous devices, Enlil had come to tell her where to go,

helping her in a backhanded way to cross the thresholds.

But why the disguises? Why couldn’t he reveal himself to her?

They had made love three times already, and three of his seeds grew in her womb.

Yet as pleasurable and intense as their physical mating had been, something was missing.

Enlil desired her, this she knew for sure.

But she needed more than caresses exchanged in the darkness and the bittersweet throbbing of her sexual parts.

“Better to be on my way… ”

Clothes almost dry, Ninlil walked towards the widest cave opening looming like a dragon’s mouth in front of her.

The ground abounded with pointed pebbles, so the descent was slow, demanding work.

She could hold on to the nearest walls, but in the limited light she could hardly see where to place her next step.

There was utter, complete silence, only interrupted by her heartbeat.

Time had also lost meaning: a minute could sound like eternity within this Nature’s fortress.

At last she stopped on the brink of a large expanse of unbroken still waters.

Too still. There was no wave, no current seemed to move, no bubble of foam beaded the shore.

Impossible to tell how far this lake would reach, how deep.

Indeed, she would risk the guess that this was the Underworld Sea,

whose darkness seemed to swallow light and not reflect it back.

Enlil, have you come this way?’

Ninlil asked the Darkness out loud, and her voice faded away into the emptiness without echo.

She stood silent on the shore, just waiting.

A ripple on the water brought her into full alert.

Far, very far yet but approaching swiftly was a boat.

As black as the water it rode on, with a hooded figure rowing on board.

When he got very close, the air stirred around her face in a caress, bringing a memory of the Great Above.

Ninlil saw two shining light-colored eyes and straightened her back.

‘Who calls the ferryman of the Great Below?’

‘Has my lord Enlil taken passage with you recently?’

‘I cannot answer this question, for I am commanded to silence’.

‘So he did come this way.

How did he manage to conquer your graces so that you could ferry him across?’

‘Lord Enlil wept for grief in my arms, I touched him and rowed my Lord to the other side’.

‘What you have done for him, you must do for me.

I am Ninlil, Lord Enlil‘s Queen’.

‘If you are Ninlil, Lord Enlil‘s Queen, let me touch your face,

let me touch your body and swear my loyalty on it to Enlil‘.

This was the same speech she had heard from the Gatekeeper and the Guardian of the Devouring River.

So here she was face to face with Enlil again in disguise.

What was he aiming at?

Ninlil could hardly suppress the urge to unmask the ferryman.

Then she thought better.

For just a little longer she would play along his little game of hide and seek.

‘The seed of your lord grows within me.

By my power, by the Beloved of mine you serve, let me in your boat and ferry me across. Now’.

‘O Lady, let my royal seed go to heaven, let my royal seed go to the Underworld.

Please Lady, let my seed dive into the waters of the Underworld Sea as a gift to Queen Ereshkigal.

Lie with me as well, my Lady”.

‘Why are you doing this, ferryman?

Why are you giving your seed to replace my lord’s?

And why would I accept such offer?’

‘Lady, I offer my seed to replace my lord’s out of love and my will to bring comfort

and kindness to his troubled mind, body and heart.

I am pledged to serve Enlil and ransom him with my very life.

I’ve known my lord all my life, but only by rowing him over the lifeless,

still waters of the Underworld sea I’ve come to realize the stuff life is made of: love and connection,

boundless energy and the will to give of oneself to the world and to the beloved within and without.

My lord wants to give of himself in a much deeper level although he doesn’t know how.

I’ve felt his need to bond and yet the fear of being let down.

I changed by ferrying him over the sea.

So lay with me, lady Air (Ninlil), and share with me all the passion that you have locked inside.

I need your loving touch to ensoul and guide me through this lonely night.

Please, Lady, once you laid on a raft under the skies.

Will you enter my boat now in the Great Below?’

Was it Enlil‘s backhanded way to ask her forgiveness?

With growing certainty, Ninlil prodded further: ‘I was not invited to the raft under the skies.

Are you asking me to accept your offer out of my own free will?’

She could feel the intense emotion gripping the ferryman.

Had she touched the core of the tornado?

And could she ride the storm afterwords?

‘Tell me, ferryman, in your own words.

Why would I accept to lay with you?’

She wanted the Words and was going to get them out of him at some stage.

‘Out of love. Love that you feel for lord Enlil‘.

“Was that so difficult, Beloved?”

Ninlil asked him silently, and said out loud:

‘And for the love that I have for myself and the future we can have together if I succeed to bring him back to the Heights Above.

I couldn’t love Enlil the extent I do if I didn’t know my mind, body, heart and soul.

He is the closest that I found to my heart’s desire, although at that time I wasn’t ready to tell him so.

I just wonder when he is going to come to terms with his Lover within

so that he can acknowledge me without as his Beloved as well as his Queen.

For all these reasons, ferryman, I take up your offer’.

Eyes light of color gleamed in the darkness.

He bowed low in a most graceful reverence and stretched his hand to help her in.

He treated her as befitted to the Chosen of the greatest Anunnaki.

‘I’ll call this seed of yours Ennugi, Lord of the Sexual Parts’, said Ninlil when intercourse was over.

She kissed the ferryman in the mouth.

‘His challenge will be to go beyond physical release, his gift will be Seduction, Laughter, Intimacy and Play.

His duty will be to be Responsible for whom he captivates.

He will be Energy and Passion seasoned with Creativity in all worlds he dares to fare’.

‘Your surprise me, my Lady’.

She knew there was a smile in his voice.

‘Fulfil your part of the contract, ferryman.

I need to go to the other side.

If I need to ransom mine and Enlil‘s life to have a future, I want to start building this future as soon as possible’.

As soon as she set foot on the shore, the feeling of disorientation,

of going deeper and deeper still into other realms took hold of Ninlil.

When an eternity later she felt her balance return very gradually, Darkness spoke.

Again, Ninlil had to get a serious grip on her strained nerves not to scream.

The voices spoke all at once, and it took a little while for Ninlil to understand the bellowed words.

‘Who has come unasked to the Great Below?

‘Who has dared to come unannounced?

‘Who has crossed the threshold of the Land of No Return?’

Ninlil took a deep breath to quieten her racing heart, the panic that had started to find a place in her soul.

The voices were real, but she could see nothing ahead.

Nevertheless, she had gone too far not to continue the descent.

But the weight of the journey was heavy on her shoulders.

Now that the end was nearer than before, would she be able to rescue Enlil and herself?

Could she reason with the Dark Lady?

3a - Ereshkigal, Inanna, Nannar, & Utu

(Ereshkigal           Inanna     Nannar      Utu, children of Nannar, patron god of Ur)

Strangely enough, it was the thought of Ereshkigal, the Queen of the Underworld,

who made Ninlil turn to practical matters.

The thought of her Great Ancestress,

who had been given the Underworld for her domain after Earth and Heaven had been separated,

made Ninlil remember her temple training, the manners of a young goddess and the respects due to her elders.

No matter what, the Underworld was a Sacred Realm, and she had come uninvited.

The first thing she should do was to greet the guardians and the Lady of the Great Place.

Graciously, Ninlil knelt and bowed to answer the Voices Claiming in the Darkness:

‘I lend graces to the Guardians of the Underworld and to Almighty Ereshkigal, Queen of the Great Below

2 - Ereshkigal  (Ereshkigal, Queen of the “Great Below“).

I am called Ninlil, a Maiden of the Holy House of An, daughter of Haia,

God of the Stores and of the Barley Goddess Numbarshegunu. I came alone and of my own free will

to the Land of No Return to intercede for the life of my lord, Enlil, the Air god,

who was sent to the Underworld because of a grave offense he did to myself.

I therefore very humbly request an audience with the Lady of the Great Place.

May the Dark Lady receive also in advance my respects and deepest praises!’

Sooner than Ninlil expected, a stern gate towered over her, opened by an even sterner gatekeeper holding a torch upright.

4c - young Inanna, Ereshkigal, & Nannar (unidentified, Ninlil, & Ereshkigal seated)

He was Neti, she was told, Ereshkigal‘s guardian of the Underworld thresholds.

This time, she was sure, the Guardian had not been Enlil in disguise.

Eyes were not light of color, there were no emotions on sight, just impartiality and efficiency.

Six other gates succeeded the first with a speed she found difficult to believe, for a feeling of disorientation took hold of her,

as if she were going deeper and deeper within layers and layers of existence, her own and many others.

The strong, soul-baring feeling only subsided when she crossed the seventh gate,

when another even more serious face greeted her and Neti.

Sukkal Namtar, the young woman from the Worlds Above requests to be seen by the Great Queen,’ provided Neti.

              (Ereshkigal, naked Inanna, & Namtar)

Namtar (Ereshkigal‘s son) nodded and appraised Ninlil with cold assurance.

She felt like shrinking before such knowing gaze, but held her ground.

‘Since you’ve come this far,

it is fitting that you are given the chance to see Queen … and see whether you can conquer her graces!

Follow me,’ Namtar answered after a time that looked like eternity.

A palace rose before them.

It was made of the purest lapis lazuli (blue-hued gem stone) and crystal rock, solid and severe in its square design.

Wall carvings showed scenes she knew of the Great Myths and others she couldn’t place the land.

The ziggurat tower in the middle of the palace projected itself in the dim light of the Underworld

(aliens in high-tech underground), and torches glowed in the ever-lasting twilight.

‘I need to ask you again, my lady, is it your will to get into the domains of the Great Queen Ereshkigal?’

asked quietly Namtar.

‘If my lord Enlil is in there’.

‘He is’.

‘So it is my will to go in’.

‘You were warned’.

Ninlil followed Namtar across the silent courtyard, countless passageways, chambers and staircases.

Finally, they stopped in the Grand Hall. Namtar bowed deeply.

Ninlil wisely imitated him before raising her eyes and to see what laid before her eyes.

Seated in a high throne in the twilit room and the shadows beyond was a tall, regal woman.

She was cloaked and hooded in a shimmering black fabric that had fleeting blue glints, like those of great lapis-lazuli stones.

Her visage was hidden.

Ninlil caught her breath in foreboding because of the aura of surpassing mystery

and power which seemed to emanate from her, making her tremble as a terrified child.

Never before had Ninlil encountered this kind of grave authority and seriousness.

She was unmistakably in the presence of Ereshkigal, the Queen of the Underworld.

‘Why have you come unasked to the Land of No Return?’ asked a deep, incisive and yet melodious voice.

The question had been issued, and it resonated within Ninlil‘s heart, mind, body and soul.

She swallowed hard and spoke, her voice sounding very small in the vastness of the Great Hall:

‘Great Lady, I came to ask you for the life of my lord Enlil,

who was sent to you because of a grave offense he did to me.

(Ninlil, equal spouse to Enlil, heir to the throne over alien gods)

I am Ninlil, his Lady, who bears also his seeds.

And.. there is something else too…’

‘Which is?’

‘I… I would like to understand what has been going on so far, since the Descent to the Land of No Return for us started.

For I suspect there is great healing in what we’ve experienced so far.’

Ereshkigal didn’t reply, and asked on:

‘Why are you interceding for the life of Enlil, if he did harm to you?’

Enlil was violent and clumsy, but I didn’t fare much better either.

With him and myself.

But I believe we both learnt a great deal and need the chance of a future together.

I ask you for a future, my lady.

For Enlil and me and our seed, the baby of light, in the Worlds Above.’

‘On what grounds do you say that Enlil learnt a lesson?

How do you know that he satisfied the Law of Balance and made up for his wrongdoing?’,

queried implacably Ereshkigal. Ninlil sighed.

The Queen of the Underworld was not going to make things easy for her.

Yet She still hadn’t fastened on Ninlil Her ‘eye of death’.

In actual fact, Ereshkigal had been totally impartial so far, listening attentively for Ninlil‘s version of all facts.

‘I believe Enlil might have learnt a lesson because of the strange, intense meetings with the gatekeeper first,

then the guardian of the devouring river and finally with the ferryman of the Underworld sea.

They were Enlil in disguise, weren’t they?’

Having made this bold statement, Ninlil stopped and looked up to see whether there was any reaction on Ereshkigal‘s side.

There was none. But on the other hand She hadn’t said that Ninlil was out of her mind.

So she continued: ‘Somehow I could see it was him behind each Guardian of a Threshold I had to thread upon.

I wondered why he was there each time in disguise…’

Ninlil hesitated. ‘Go on’, urged Ereshkigal, her tone of command could not be denied.

‘Because… because we were both thresholds to each other.

Enlil confronted his worst nightmares at each time we met and he was in disguise.

He saw the true colors of conflict and grief at the city gate, wounding and healing in the Devouring River,

loneliness and connection in the depths of the Underworld sea.

But there is more to it.

Having been hurt by Enlil, I was his most difficult threshold.

On my side… I had to learn to see through him, understand his Quest and my role in it.’

Tears started streaming down her face.

Ninlil dried them with an impatient wave of her hand.

‘This is the reason why he never told me who he was at each threshold.

He simply couldn’t.

You inflicted a mighty test of humility to the proudest of the young Gods, my lady.

He had to come to me and beg for love, risking rejection, but trying anyway.

I wonder whether he realized all this.

And I… I had to go beyond my girlish dreams of a fancy lover to accept the god and the man in his totality.

And his seeds…’A sob cut out her words. Ninlil didn’t care.

Her tears were a measure of how much she had grown and learnt.

They couldn’t be denied. She sat on the floor,

because her knees were giving in to the effort of sustaining her body to continue:

‘The three seeds of mine and Enlil‘s I had to take them into my body and heal us three.

And now, my Lady, I understand your Great Mission and my heart is filled with awe before you.’

‘Why?’ was the question, issued in a much different tone this time.

‘Because only You and your Realm are the Keepers of Regeneration, Inner Beauty and Self-Transcendence.

Only the Mighty Ereshkigal, the Judge, Keeper of the Ancestral Land and Mistress of Balance

holds the Keys to solve Conflicts and Wars, knows the Depths of Healing and Wounding

and understands Life, Love and Connection because She is Life after Life

the One that gives Rebirth hopefully in a higher sphere, if we pass Her tests.

Lady, I lend you graces with all my body, mind, heart and Soul..

For only You are the focal point above all dualities, the Center that Sees ALL, Knows and Heals’.

Ninlil lowered her head to dry in the skirt of her dress the sea of tears that blinded her.

She didn’t see that Ereshkigal had left her high throne to stand in front of her.

‘Daughter of An, beyond your tears you’ve learnt to SEE, FEEL AND ACT so it is fitting that now look at me!’

When Ninlil looked up, the hood had fallen and she saw for the first time Ereshkigal´s face.

Not the lioness-headed goddess or the projection of one’s worst nightmares.

Instead, the radiant beauty of a dark-haired goddess looked at Ninlil.

The Lady of the Great Place was older, yet young and Ageless, a Woman in Her own right, tall and slim.

Eyes of Thoughtful Seriousness were smiling at Ninlil too. ‘You’ve traveled far and well, Ninlil.

Now, off to the Great Above you should go.

At the right time and season, you’ll come back to Me, to give birth to the three seeds

that should return to the Inner Womb of the Universe.

Now that they were created, the seeds of Conflict and War,

Healing and Wounding, Loneliness and Love can hurt as much as they can heal.

Everything will depend on one’s choices, and I can do no more than to Keep Watch and Guard

so that the Laws of Balance prevail in the end.

The fourth seed when it is due, may it ascend to the heavens with my blessings

to grow and wane for twenty-seven nights in a never-ending cycle.

On the 29th night, though, it will disappear from the Worlds Above to join My Lights in the Underworld.

At the end of the 29th night it will then return to the Heights in Waxing Glow.

Call yours and Enlil‘s baby Nanna (Nannar / Sin), the Light of the Night,

3a - Nannar & moon crescent symbol (god Nanna / Nannar & his Moon Crescent symbol of then & now)

the Brightness that will teach humanity to count time,

the Moon that Waxes into Fullness and Wanes in all Worlds, always to Return.’

Ninlil found herself smiling back at Ereshkigal.

Hers and Enlil‘s baby would indeed have a most splendid fate.

A child whose Light would wax and wane in a never-ending cycle,

out of Darkness towards Light and back again from Brightness to Dark.

‘Great Lady, I lend you graces.’

Ereshkigal smiled at Ninlil, and then Great Goddess’ voice turned gentle and direct at once.

Ninlil suspected that this right balance of inquisitiveness, prodding and humor was Ereshkigal‘s trademark:

(Enlil exits the Under World, greeted by Nannar, Ninlil, & Inanna

‘In the assembly of the Gods gathered to judge Enlil, I also heard your lament in a form of a question.

You asked whether love could grow out of pain to ensoul your life’s further journey.

Can it really, Ninlil?’

Understanding and joy so great filled Ninlil‘s heart.

‘Yes’, she affirmed, ‘ but only if one is able to see truth and wholeness beyond the hardest trials.’

A delighted laughter sounded in the Great Hall.

‘So what are you waiting for, Ninlil, to rescue your reluctant Lord to the Heights Above?

4d - Ninlil followed Enlil to Ereshkigal's Underworld (Ninlil & Ereshkigal in her Under World domain)

Off with both of you from my realms!’

Ninlil did exactly as she was told.

Who was she to disobey the Great Queen of the Underworld?

Mother, if Enlil (Earth Colony Commander) is such a great lord, how will he notice me?’

‘You are my daughter! What else did you expect me to say?

Go bless the waters and the fields!’

I am the daughter of Haia, Lord of the Stores and Numbarshegunu, the Goddess of Barley.

As a man I long to taste your mouth, your tongue and feel the sweetness of your body.

Come to my arms, Ninlil, surrender to delights we both could share!’

You are too great for me, my lord. I am too young. I have never known a man.

My vagina is too narrow, my mouth still untutored. Choose another one!

‘Wait! Come back over here now!

Why are you running away? Nusku!

Where in the Skyfather‘s name are you hiding?’

‘So he is angry! With me or himself… or both?’

‘Coming my lord! What’s upsetting you?

You told me to keep out of sight!’

‘It’s a girl, damn her! Ninlil is her name.

She dared to give me the slip.

But I’ll come after her!

Quick, Nusku, find me a raft so that I can chase her in the canal.

Never before was I refused anything.

I’ll have her, no matter what!

‘Your wish is my command, my lord.

I’ll go to the quay and see what I can find’.

‘She can’t stay underwater long. I must have her!

What woman have I offered myself before her? None!’

‘You shall have her, my lord. Trust me’.

5jb - Ninlil, Enlil, & Nusku (giant alien gods using the waterways long ago)

Ninlil slid among the high reeds, but the raft was quickly approaching.

She kept very quiet. Her chances to escape, though, were scarce.

Against Enlil‘s and Nusku‘s combined strengths and the raft, she could only hope they gave up the pursuit.

‘There, my lord, in between the reeds!’

‘I really made it! My seed is inside you! Ninlil, o Lady!’ ‘Ninlil, my Lady, wait!’

‘Never before was a daughter (granddaughter by way of Enki) of An,

a Maiden of the Holy House so ill-treated by one of the Anunnaki.

The waters of Mother Nammu (Enki‘s mother, not Enlil‘s), the Source of Life, were defiled by one of her own.

May you stand trial, Enlil, for what you did to me.

May you pay a very dear price for the brightness of your seed!’

Two grave crimes were committed by one of the great gods.

My heart bleeds for the accused, my (Antu‘s) first-born Enlil,

but it bleeds even more for my daughter (granddaughter) Ninlil.

Is your defense based on just desire and passion?’, asked Ki (Ninhursag) to Enlil, her voice sharp as a razor.

  (young Ninhursag, Enlil‘s 1/2 sister, & mother to NinurtaEnlil‘s son & heir)

‘Yes’, replied Enlil, clearly in discomfort.

NinhursagKi’s (Enlil‘s ½ sister) anger was so evident that she dismissed Enlil with a wave or her mighty hand.

She turned then to the Assembly:

‘It is right to feel desire and expected that a young god feels drawn to a Maiden of the Holy House.

Above all, it is expected that they come together at the right time and season in the Sacred Marriage rite.

This is the way the Sacredness of Life is celebrated among us,

from Mother Nammu (Enki‘s mother) the Sea who in an act of selfless Self-Love

3a - Anu in flight (Skyfather Anu in his sky-disc, King of the giant alien Anunnaki gods)

engendered the Skyfather (Anu) who the Assembly presides and myself as the Cosmic Mountain Ki (Ninhursag).

The law shall be preserved!’ ‘

The law shall be preserved!’ repeated in agreement the Assembly.

I claim my child as Enlil‘s first born-to-be (on earth with Ninlil).

To the Assembly gathered here I demand the punishment of my rapist so that never again

a daughter or son suffer the hideous act of violence I was subjected to.

3c - Enki in the Abzu3a - Enki & Aquarius constellation

              (E.A. / Enki / Nudummud / Poseidon / Neptune / Aquarius, King Anu‘s eldest & wisest son)

It was Enki, lord of Wisdom, Magic and of the Sweet Waters, son of An the Sky and Nammu (Enki‘s mother) the Sea,

brother to Enlil, who answered thoughtfully after some time:

‘Sorrow and pain are the measures of the happiness and laughter that could be.

Healing can always occur, if one is ready to see truth and wholeness beyond the hardest trials.’

‘Is it too late for me to take Ninlil as my wife?’ interrupted Enlil, turning to the Assembly.

He turned then to Ninlil. He knelt graciously in front of her.

‘Will you accept me as your true husband, Ninlil?

Nothing can undo what was done, and I deserve the hardest punishment for my act,

but I am also honor-bound to set balances right for what I did to you, my Lady, and my seed.

I’ll do more than marrying you,

Ninlil, because let it be known that from now on I’ll share my power with you,

Lady Air, so that you can become my true Soul-Counterpart everywhere we dare to fare’.

(giants Nisaba, Enlil, & his spouse Ninlil with a semi-divine king)

‘The possibility of marriage is only a first act to set balances right.

But it does not absolve the culprit.

Enlil‘s impiety struck at roots far deeper than that.

Enlil made himself a Guardian of the Earth, to guard, love and protect first his mother and all women,

who are garments of my Beloved Ki (Antu sometimes, Ninhursag sometimes).

Enlil himself forbade violence all over the land, all that lies in the South, North, West and East.

He kept in the wilderness the quarreling beasts.

But now he has brought violence in.

He broke the sacred trust we gave him.

All I say is that Sky rejects you now’.

‘The Earth rejects you now’, said Ki.

‘So be it! The Assembly rejects you now!’ echoed the judges.

‘Where should I then go?’, asked stunned Enlil.

Until you set balances right, until you travel unknown depths, you cannot go back to us.

There is only one place you are bound to go.

To the Land of No Return, the Underworld‘.

‘So be it!’ agreed the Assembly.

‘But I don’t know the way to the Underworld‘, said Enlil, still trying to avoid his fate.

4cc - Ninlil follows Enlil to the Underworld (Ninlil followed Enlil into the Underworld)

‘There is a door to the Underworld in every soul to set balances right and change.

The moment you forced yourself unto the young Lady you found that door.

Let’s see whether you can get in and pay the price for your return.

Now you are the doorkeeper of the Great Below‘, said Enki.

‘Lord Enki,’ she asked, ‘is my lord gone?’

‘Yes, Ninlil, he is gone.

We hope it is for the time being, until he learns a deep lesson,

until he pays the price for what he did to you and all Creation’, Enki answered softly, bowing to her.

4 - door to Ereshkigal's Underworld  (door to the Underworld / Lower World / Nether World / Hades, realm of Ereshkigal)

Enlil has just crossed the threshold to the Underworld.’

Ninlil kept silence for a little while, as if gathering all her strength to do what she should.

‘I’ll follow my lord to the bowels of the earth’, she said out loud.

‘And beyond if need be”, she thought to herself.

As these words came out, she too vanished from the assembly.

‘Go back, my lady. The door to the Underworld is closed to you’.

‘I have a question for you, Keeper of the Gates.

Did you see my Lord Enlil come this way?’

The eyes of the gatekeeper gleamed:

‘This way is barred to you.

If you are Ninlil, his lady, let me feel your cheek,

let me touch you and swear my loyalty on them to Enlil‘.

Ninlil looked sternly at the gatekeeper:

‘Why are you doing this, gatekeeper?

Why are you giving your seed to replace my lord’s?

And why would I accept such high ransom?’

She could feel the shyness and reluctance of the gatekeeper to open up to her.

But she was patient.

Somehow she had seen through the disguise who he actually was.

Enlil, stop pretending and let me in so that we can descend together.

Why the disguise?

Have the Winds of Change started to blow within your heart?

2d - Enlil in Nippur (Anunnaki Royal Prince Enlil on his throne in Nippur, Earth Colony Command Central)

Show me who you are, Enlil.

It’s me, Ninlil, your Soul-Counterpart.”

‘Lady, I offer my seed to replace my lord’s out of love and sorrow

for the offense my lord committed in the Worlds Above.

“Beloved, why?” her heart asked,

As they laid in a close embrace in the aftermath, he whispered into her hair.

‘I need to go. Turn back,

Ninlil, don’t cross the threshold to the Below’.

‘Have you crossed it?’ she asked instead, raising her head to meet his light sky-blue eyes.

The Gatekeeper’s eyes reflected such deep sadness, the arms around Ninlil‘s tensed,

but the Gatekeeper’s voiced sounded strong and committed. To what?

‘Yes. I had to. And now I need to go on’.

‘This seed of yours that grows within me now,

inergal001p1 (Nergal, warrior god, Lord of the Under World, spouse to Ereshkigal)

I’ll call him Nergal-Meslamtaea (a son of Enlil‘s in this text), and his will be the knowledge of the hard mysteries

of Conflict, Wounding and Diseases so that humanity and the gods know about Peace, Healing and Wholeness in all levels.’

‘But I also need to be on my way,’ Ninlil continued, her voice acquiring a decisive tone.

‘ Release me, Gatekeeper. I’ve paid your price.

As Enlil is your master, I am your lady.

I am not asking your leave. I will get in. Now.’

‘So be it’, the Gatekeeper replied.

“I’ll follow the course of the river and see what lies around the river bank.

There may be a bridge or a crossing point somewhere.

I just need to be persistent and walk with great care.

I’ll find a way cross the cataract … wherever it is!” reasoned Ninlil.

A throaty voice called from behind: ‘Go back, lady. You may not cross the Devouring River’.

“Tell me first, has my Lord Enlil come this way?’

‘My Lord Enlil commanded me to be silent’.

‘So have you answered me. Enlil came this way.

How did he cross the river?’

‘He wept for grief in my arms,

I touched him and carried my Lord over the cataract and the stepping stones of the Underworld‘.

‘What you have done for him, you must do for me.

I am Ninlil, Lord Enlil‘s Queen’.

‘If you are Ninlil, Lord Enlil‘s Queen, let me touch your face, let me touch your body and swear my loyalty on it to Enlil‘.

4d - Ninlil followed Enlil to Ereshkigal's Underworld  (Ereshkigal in her Lower World domain)

‘Why are you doing this, Guardian of the Devouring River?

Why are you giving your seed to replace my lord’s? And why would I accept such offer?’

‘I offer my seed to replace my lord’s out of love and my will to heal his troubled heart,

as well as to heal the wounds he inflicted to you, my Lady, by his unspeakable behavior.

I am pledged to serve Enlil and ransom him with my very life.

I’ve known my lord all my life, but only by carrying him over the devouring river.

I’ve come face to face with mysteries unknown to me so far.

By facing the violence of the rushing waters,

I faced the side of my lord that is like a storm, a restless, destructive force.

‘Will you carry me afterwards, as you did… to Enlil?’

‘Yes’. ‘This seed of yours, I’ll call him Ninazu (a son of Enlil‘s in this text),

the Water-Knower, Lord of the Depths that Heal.

2a - Bau & son Damu, medical treatment

(Bau‘s son Dr. Damu with ill patient, Bau, her guard dog, & spouse Ninurta; medical treatment administered by giant alien gods thousands of years ago on Earth)

Carry me’.

“Who follows whom, Beloved?”

“Better to be on my way… “

Enlil, have you come this way?’ Ninlil asked ‘Who calls the ferryman of the Great Below?’

‘Lady, I offer my seed to replace my lord’s out of love

and my will to bring comfort and kindness to his troubled mind, body and heart.

So lay with me, lady Air, and share with me all the passion that you have locked inside.

I need your loving touch to ensoul and guide me through this lonely night.

Please, Lady, once you laid on a raft under the skies.

Will you enter my boat now in the Great Below?’

Ninlil prodded further: ‘ I was not invited to the raft under the skies.

Are you asking me to accept your offer out of my own free will?’

She could feel the intense emotion gripping the ferryman.

Had she touched the core of the tornado?

And could she ride the storm afterwards?

‘Tell me, ferryman, in your own words. Why would I accept to lay with you?’

‘Out of love. Love that you feel for lord Enlil‘.

             (Ninlil, equal spouse to Enlil)

“Was that so difficult, Beloved?” Ninlil asked him silently, and said out loud:

‘And for the love that I have for myself and the future we can have together

if I succeed to bring him back to the Heights Above.

I couldn’t love Enlil the extent I do if I didn’t know my mind, body, heart and soul.

He is the closest that I found to my heart’s desire, although at that time I wasn’t ready to tell him so.

I just wonder when he is going to come to terms with his Lover within so that he can acknowledge me

without as his Beloved as well as his Queen.

For all these reasons, ferryman, I take up your offer’.

‘Fulfill your part of the contract, ferryman.

I need to go to the other side.

If I need to ransom mine and Enlil‘s life to have a future, I want to start building this future as soon as possible’.

‘Who has come unasked to the Great Below? ‘

Who has dared to come unannounced? ‘

Who has crossed the threshold of the Land of No Return?’

‘I lend graces to the Guardians of the Underworld and to Almighty Ereshkigal, Queen of the Great Below.

2 - Ereshkigal  (Ereshkigal, undisputed giant Queen of the location in the “Great Below“)

I am called Ninlil, a Maiden of the Holy House of An, daughter of Haia,

2e - Nisaba, unknowns, spouse Haia

(Nisaba             Enlil   unidentified      Haia          Ninlil, royal gods of grains)

God of the Stores and of the Barley Goddess Numbarshegunu (Nisaba).

I came alone and of my own free will to the Land of No Return to intercede for the life of my lord, Enlil, the Air god,

who was sent to the Underworld because of a grave offense he did to myself.

I therefore very humbly request an audience with the Lady of the Great Place.

May the Dark Lady receive also in advance my respects and deepest praises!’

(Under World scene, Ereshkigal, naked Inanna, & Namtar)

Sukkal Namtar (Ereshkigal‘s son), the young woman from the Worlds Above

requests to be seen by the Great Queen,’ provided Neti (the gatekeeper).

‘Since you’ve come this far, it is fitting that you are given the chance to see Queen

and see whether you can conquer her graces!

Follow me,’ Namtar answered after a time that looked like eternity.

‘I need to ask you again, my lady, is it your will to get into the domains of the Great Queen Ereshkigal?’

asked quietly Namtar.

‘If my lord Enlil is in there’.

‘He is’.

‘So it is my will to go in’.

‘You were warned’.

‘Why have you come unasked to the Land of No Return?’

‘Great Lady, I came to ask you for the life of my lord Enlil,

who was sent to you because of a grave offense he did to me.

4 - Ninlil, Enlil's spouse  (Ninlil, equal spouse to Earth Colony Commander Enlil)

2a - Ereshkigal, Nannar's Daughter (Ereshkigal seated upon her throne at her ziggurat located in the Under World)

Ereshkigal didn’t reply, and asked on: ‘Why are you interceding for the life of Enlil, if he did harm to you?’

How do you know that he satisfied the Law of Balance and made up for his wrongdoing?’, queried implacably Ereshkigal.

‘I believe Enlil might have learnt a lesson because of the strange, intense meetings with the gatekeeper first,

then the guardian of the devouring river and finally with the ferryman of the Underworld sea.

They were Enlil in disguise, weren’t they?’

‘Somehow I could see it was him behind each Guardian of a Threshold I had to thread upon.

I wondered why he was there each time in disguise…’

4c - possibly Inanna, Ereshkigal, & Nannar (unidentified, Ninlil, & Ereshkigal)

‘Go on’, urged Ereshkigal, her tone of command could not be denied.

‘Because… because we were both thresholds to each other.

Enlil confronted his worst nightmares at each time we met and he was in disguise.

He saw the true colors of conflict and grief at the city gate, wounding and healing in the Devouring River,

loneliness and connection in the depths of the Underworld sea.

But there is more to it. Having been hurt by Enlil, I was his most difficult threshold.

On my side…I had to learn to see through him, understand his Quest and my role in it.’

 2 - Nergal2a - Nannar statue 2,000 B.C. 1b - Ishkur, Adad, Teshub (giant alien Anunnaki seeds)

                       (Nergal)                                         (Nannar)                                          (Adad)

And his seeds…’ ‘The three seeds of mine and Enlils I had to take them into my body and heal us three.

And now, my Lady, I understand your Great Mission and my heart is filled with awe before you.’

‘Why?’ was the question, issued in a much different tone this time.

‘Because only You and your Realm are the Keepers of Regeneration, Inner Beauty and Self-Transcendence.

Only the Mighty Ereshkigal, the Judge, Keeper of the Ancestral Land and Mistress of Balance holds the Keys

to solve Conflicts and Wars, knows the Depths of Healing and Wounding and understands Life,

Love and Connection because She is Life after Life, the One that gives Rebirth hopefully in a higher sphere, if we pass Her tests.

Lady, I lend you graces with all my body, mind, heart and Soul..

For only You are the focal point above all dualities, the Center that Sees ALL, Knows and Heals’.

3b - Anu of planet Nibiru  (An / Anu, King of the Anunnaki from planet Nibiru, father to sons of god on Earth Colony)

‘Daughter of An, beyond your tears you’ve learnt to see, feel and act so it is fitting that now look at me!’

The fourth seed when it is due, may it ascend to the heavens with my blessings to grow

and wane for twenty-seven nights in a never-ending cycle.

On the 29th night, though, it will disappear from the Worlds Above to join My Lights in the Underworld.

At the end of the 29th night it will then return to the Heights in Waxing Glow.

Call yours and Enlil‘s (1st together) baby Nanna (Nannar), the Light of the Night,

3aa - Nanna & his symbol (Nanna / Nannar, Enlil‘s son, patron god of Ur, his is the Moon Crescent symbol, found today in Islam)

the Brightness that will teach humanity to count time,

the Moon that Waxes into Fullness and Wanes in all Worlds, always to Return.’

‘Great Lady, I lend you graces.’

‘In the assembly of the Gods gathered to judge Enlil, I also heard your lament in a form of a question.

You asked whether love could grow out of pain to ensoul your life’s further journey. Can it really, Ninlil?’

‘Yes’, she affirmed, ‘ but only if one is able to see truth and wholeness beyond the hardest trials.’

‘So what are you waiting for, Ninlil, to rescue your reluctant Lord to the Heights Above?

              (Enlil leaves the Under World)

Off with both of you from my realms!’
